We have a Bengal female about 7 months and a Bengal savanna cross (male) about the same age(both fixed). We have taken them camping, they are pretty good about traveling, if we are out and about for the day we leave then in the camper and all is good. The problem lies in the fact they tear up the camper/run around till 1 in the morning take a nap till 4 and it all begins again. When we get home from camping they are wore out and sleep for the next 14 out of 18 hours,(when they climb curtains/jump/run its like a herd of elephants, the camper actually shakes). The problem is we get no relaxation when the cats keep us up all night. If we left them home of 3 days would there be a house left? I think the camper is too small and they get bored? We are rather protective and do not let them out of our site and minimal outside without a leash. (previous Bengal was ran over and devastated us)

There are owners who take their kitties camping with them. It depends on how relaxing your want your trip to be. It's the same with taking young children. They will be rambunctious, cranky when tired, etc. Same with kitties. Personally, my fear would be the kitties somehow get OUT of the camper and then they are long gone. I'd much rather board my bengal while I'm gone and know that he is being looked after 24/7 (since there is someone there around the clock). He's in a 3-story condo in a separate "cat room" with a playroom with a large cat tree. It's for my own peace of mind! While mine would not tear anything apart, he absolutely wants to be outdoors and roaming free. That would terrify me. It doesn't take much of an opening for him to escape.

I would never leave Raiden alone at home, even if I had a pet sitter come by twice a day. That would leave about 22 hours for him to be alone and bored. At least boarding him, they feed him and the techs check on him constantly, plus he is surrounded by other cats. It's a decision only you can make, but it sounds like you'll need a fairly large camper if you want them to be comfortable.

We are going to leave they home this weekend and see how it works, we will only 20 miles from home, so we will unhook and check on them, not a true picture however they will alone overnight. The camper is 30 feet so there is room? however they seem to get bored. They will jump out/try to escape if possible, but we have kept them sheltered so far so they get scared and don't get to far away so far.

I have left mine for three days running several times, and it's always been fine. But mine are not the sort to destroy things, and they also have outdoor access.

A 30-foot camper isn't tiny by any means (I've had a 17-footer before). I do think it's best that you keep them at home, especially since you're not that far away -- but I'm guessing the whole point of camping was to get away from it all for a day or two! If you plan to return home at least once a day, they should be just fine. Enjoy your trip.

I am exaggerating a bit when I say destroy... they are high energy,,, actually they are good when we are at work and such,,, when they want something that is when they get,,,, bull headed. The camper for instance they jump/climb the curtains and search for high ground, which is in their nature, but they do it, and do it, and do it...... Honestly they do not listen well. When at home tigger will bring his favorite toy (tin foil teaser on a stick) into bed at 3-6 and want to play.... Lucy will bring her play mice and place them by the bed. (she plays fetch with the mice) They are fun, they have broke stuff, buy oh well.....

We always take both our cat and dog when we go camping. I must admit I am envious of your 30 foot camper. We have a 4 person tent.

Do you take your cats out with you during the day?

We have never had a problem with Quasar keeping us up at night while camping. We take him out during the day with us on excursions, hikes, etc. We have a pop-up kennel that we use when we are working around the campsite or are otherwise unable to hold onto him or his leash. He seems quite content watching us from the kennel as well as being able to observe the wildlife, ie. chipmunks, in the campsite.

I'm sure if we left him all day that he would not be willing to settle down all night as well, once we returned to be with him.

It's great that Quasar behaves himself on your camping excursions. Raiden would find a way to get out of that tent. There is NO way I could take him on a trip. He'll be lucky to go with us when we finally move somewhere warmer in a few years. My husband calls him a pistol and he can be much of the time. This morning, I was laying in bed while hubby was getting himself ready to go work, wondering where Raiden was because I couldn't hear him crying. After hubby left, I rolled over and there Raiden was on the bed. Awake and quiet as a mouse. Something must be wrong with him as he is NEVER quiet! I just know that if we ever had to put him in a hotel room or take him camping, he would cry and cry and we'd be tossed out on our rears. He can be worse than a barking dog at times.

We left them home Thursday night, came to town on Friday and picked them up for the weekend, Friday we put the leash on and a longer rope and let them experience the outside, it wore them out and they slept well for the evenings and woke up around their usual time 6-8 in the morning. They are not real runners so we basically sat in the chair and watched them and enjoyed the quiet. When they started up the tree we would unclip the leash from the harness and they climbed the tree, leashed them up when they came down. When we took them out Saturday we threw them in the explorer with litter box, by the time we got out of town they both pooped, so in other words when traveling take a litter box.

You are truly brave! I just don't think I could handle having Raiden with us. He's a fast little monkey. He got out the back door yesterday and I had to chase him through the backyard until he finally stopped and I could grab him. My hubby talks about getting an RV and traveling once he retires. I'd need to have an indoor enclosure there for Raiden because he would be flying out the door as we came in. Nothing would break my heart more than a lost kitty. Raiden does not come to me when I call his name. Bless those of you who dare to take your kitties like that. I would not be able to enjoy myself at all.
