i have purchaed my boy various toys filled with catnip but he doesnt seem very interested in them. My son found a toy that has silvervine in it which is supposed to be more potent than catnip. Still no interest. Do you think he will ever show any interest. He is 8 months old

It's hard to say. My recollection is that mine have all been more interested in catnip as adults than as kittens, but I guess it is a gene that controls that, so he would either have it or not. One thing you can do is use valarian instead. Happy House Cats sell some toys with valarian in them that have been popular with my cats.

Quasar is now over 2 years old. He has never shown interest in either catnip or valerian.
I'm pretty sure, however, that they could not make him act more silly or crazy than he already does without any sort of chemical aid.

Catnip triggers a sexual response and only works on sexually mature cats, even then its only a percentage. 8 moths old is around the time it should start working. Valerian is supposed to work on a higher percentage of cats but mine had no response.

Noooo, the last 5 cats I've had have all been females, and all of them have had pretty strong reactions to catnip.

I'm sorryyyyy I didn't know only males had a sexual response. I guess going into heat is a myth.

Mine doesn't care for catnip toys either, but I have a bag of catnip and he has punctured a few holes in it.
