Hello All.

Link is doing exceptional now, and I've been inspired by everyone here to look into a lot of things I never would have with BCF (raw diets, partners, training).

Link is almost 4mo now, and I'm wondering when it is best to begin harness training, or at least getting associated with a harness? Also the best harness for them? I tried searching for threads but couldn't pin-point exact info I needed. Thanks!

Also with Winter on the way when is too cold for them to be out or is that really up to them?

I live in IN, USA.

We have moderately cold winters but Link so far jumps in the shower and stuff with me so I know hes not afraid of water..

I prefer happy house cat jackets to Mynwood ones. I have both and I find my cats are far more comfortable in HHC ones.

Shipping will be delayed a bit at this time of year but she does ship overseas so there should not be a big issue.

Made to measure are far better than off the shelf ones as cats can escape those easily, plus they are not always as comfortable to wear.

My girl cat hates going out in the cold but my boy cats do not mind messing around in snow!

Is around 4mo okay to begin working with them on it?

Just placed my order for the kitten harness from HHC. Can't wait :]

I can't remember how big a 4 month old kitty is anymore. It may never be too early to get him trained on a harness or jacket. I live in Nashville and Raiden and I went out for our walk yesterday when it was 35 degrees. He seemed fine with it. He does walk a lot faster and he does love climbing. Unfortunately, he got up on something yesterday and could not back up or get himself out of the mess, so I moved the garbage can over to him so he could jump down onto it. Raiden loves our walks and I have no problem with him on a harness. I have not looked into the harness jackets just yet. Your winters are probably a little colder than ours. It certainly helps if the sun is out. I was so impressed that Raiden took to the harness immediately as his owner said he had tried to harness train him and it didn't take.

I don't remember how long it took to receive either jacket (Mynwood or HHC) only that it wasn't a worrisome length to wait.

We began harness "training" with Quasar the day we picked him up. I had purchased a pet store H-harness that we put on him before leaving the breeder's home. He didn't even seem to notice that it was on and has never balked at wearing one since.

When we got him home, it was helpful to have the harness on him, along with a short leash, to catch him when he was loose from his safe room those first few days.

I do not think that any age is too young to start training.

I would say just try it. Slowly and gently of course, but she may take to it straight away.
Benji took to her harness without too much trouble and once they realise it means going outside, it is a doddle.

I didn't know about happy house cats initially, so it was a clip type harness I used from pets at home.
Slightly easier to go on (but much easier to come off!!!) but inferior to happy house cats style and also you have to adjust the size. Not easy if you have a nervous or panicked cat!

Does anybody else's cat immediately start grooming themselves as soon as the jacket is off?!
