Hello all,

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I picked up our baby boy, a brown spotted bengal named Ziggy!

Ziggy is a little over 10 weeks old. Since we brought him home yesterday morning, he has been very shy and is extremely startled by the sound of traffic (we live near a busy street). He seems completely unsure of what to make of everything, and continues to hide either under my bed in the bedroom or under the sofa in the living room.

I have a hunch that he is not eating/drinking as much as he should, in part because of this.


When my girlfriend or myself spend one-on-one time playing with him (with his toys) on the bed, he is fine; It is more of an issue of when he is attempting to "explore" the apartment by himself.


Any tips for helping him warm up to his new surroundings?

Congratulations on becoming parents to Ziggy! You have to remember, he's only 10 weeks old and is in entirely new surroundings and is terrified! He's been separated from his mom and siblings. Wouldn't you be terrified as well? They usually recommend keeping Ziggy in a safe room with his food, toys, and litter box. Once he's comfortable there, then you can expand his territory in your home. Trust me, your home is extremely large in scale for him. The important thing is to allow him to acclimate and not force him. He will get used to everything. You want to make sure he is eating, drinking water, and using his litter box.

Some on here will say the earliest a kitty should leave his mom is 13 weeks. Please have patience with Ziggy. I know you want to pick him up all the time, snuggle, love on him. Just letting him come to you and you petting him will assure him. And playtime is very important in the bonding process.

Ziggy will come around -- it will just take some time and you've just got to be patient!
