So my OH recorded tv programme about birds as Indiya showed lot of interest in it. He then replayed it to her few times and she really loved it.
Now she is asking for tv episode of birdies every day when tv is on.
I dont mind but a bit worried about long term consequences, ie :
1. she watches tv very close, 40 mins episode every day. is it going to affect her eyesight?
2. she is confused with 2d and intangibles. Im sure it messes with her mind
3. she becomes more and more attached to tv now.

Please comment what you thunk and should I stop it??
thanks

This is for real? I've seen commercials with cats staring at aquariums or TV screens, but I didn't think it was for real. I know when I've watched "My Cat From Hell," when the cats cried, Raiden would turn his head to the TV, but I don't think he watches it. I have no idea if this is a danger to cats. 40 minutes day? That's not a lot. If you're concerned, limit it to more like 15 minutes per day. Maybe you need a window perch so she can watch real birds out the window! Mine loves watching the birds at our feeders.

My cat Chilli watched TV if there are dolphins on! She will run up to the TV and watch for ages and is hard to distract, not sure why, she has never seen one in real life - perhaps they look tasty? Fortuantely that is not very often so she is not addicted!

Inky loves baseball and golf and some video games. I don't really see a problem with it. I don't see it as being any different than looking out a window. She yells at golf when the putt goes in.

One of the non-Bengals will lay on his back in front of the tv and watch the shows that show litters of kittens grow up. :)

I thought so too but she is a smart girl and keeps going round TV to check for birdies. Then she seems to be confused and dissapointed when she finds nothing.

Our bengal Suki watches TV when there are wildlife programmes showing (makes sense ), she pays particular attention to anything black/white such as polar bears, penguins, even animated Felix from the cat food ad!

Our Sheba likes dolphin programmes too! She also likes Monkey life and My Cat from Hell....not sure we should let her watch that in case she gets any ideas lol... she only watches about 20mins though then moves on. Loki on the other hand isn't really fussed at all - unless you count sitting with my dad whilst he watches war films?

Thanks everyone for replying.
Do your cats watch TV like my Indiya on the pic? Ie very close to the screen?
This is how she watches pretty much all 40 mins of the episode. Or even closer - she would squeeze her body right next to the screen and will watch sideways very close to the screen.

Chilli sits on the floor and looks up so she is further away but that's because she knows if she sits on our sound bar her dad will tell her off so she only does that when she wants to wind him up ;-)

This is EXACTLY how my previous ginger tom, Spike, used to watch what we called Animal Porn. His favourite was always David Attenborough's Life of Birds. He died last September and we still miss him - helped a lot by our two Bengals. It didn't do Spike any harm at all. Even at 13 years old, he still checked behind the TV from time to time in case the bird was there. The female we rescued at the same time (his "sorta sister" both just under 1 year old) learnt after checking twice that there really was no bird. Dear Spike, bless him, checked right up until he was too old to get up onto the TV cabinet. Still watched intently though....

Enjoy the sweet antics of your cat. They are just part of the fun.
