I hope someone can let me know whats going on. Recently I noticed that the skin on Rosie's ears has been changing pigmentation. She hasn't lost any hair in these areas and there doesn't appear to be any kind of irritation. She is perfectly happy, doesn't even scratch the area. I suspect that its just her spots because when she was spade i noticed patchy areas of pigmentation that could just be her pattern.

Any kind of insight you can offer would be great, I haven't found anything after a search of the internet for an hour.

Looks exactly like both of my boys' ears.
If Max would sit still, I'd snap a photo.
Max also has the same birthmark-looking discolorations in front of his ears, where there is less fur, you can see it more.
Perfectly normal... didn't happen for him until he was almost 8 months old. I freaked out and the vet laughed.

@ Millie74 - Rosie doesn't get those little spots on her ears but my other cat Maddie does from time to time. The vet said it could be down to a number of different things.

1. A single flea bite can cause a cat to scratch in a certain place even if that was not the area the cat was bitten in, this can result in small abrasions on the skin which are not so much infected but inflamed for a short while.

2. An allergic reaction can sometimes cause little spots to appear on the ears, food, textiles and even plants in your garden could be to blame.

3. If you have another cat, their rough and tumble can result in these small raised spots, much like when a cat scratches your arm and for a couple of hours afterwards its a little bit swollen and itchy.

Hope this helps.... the vet that gave me the advice was a dermatology specialist.

I'm just happy to hear that this is normal. I didn't think to ask the vet about it this past week.

My Bengal has so much pigmentation that there is hardly any pink/white. I have been trying to get a picture of it but she won't cooperate. If I can, I will post it. My vet said that it was normal, just like people have birthmarks and spots, cats can too.
