I think you are focusing on the wrong things - how well someone uses the internet is not an indication of their cat breeding abilities!

The best way to learn about a breeder is to talk to them and visit their home. This is best done armed with information, so that you know when something isn't normal. Reading through this forum will help you with this. Also, you must think with your head and not just your heart. You do not need to buy the first cute kitten you see. They will all be cute- but you also want one that is healthy, well-socialised, and a good match for you.

When I visited my breeder, I brought a list of questions to ask to make sure I didn't forget anything important. If you are unsure about something a breeder says, you can always come onto the forum afterwards and ask the breeders here to clarify whether something is standard or not.

I absolutely hate pets4homes and alike - but that is because I see so many people advertising Bengal cross kittens or Bengal kittens with no papers ie they are non-active reg and have no permission to breed from the parents.
I actually depresses me.

But I agree with the others, its about what the breeder does, how they act, what they provide and ho you click with them thats the important thing. I've visited breeders and not bought a cat from them because something just wasn't right....for me.

a couple of things I would like to know; when I go to look at kittens, how will I know whether they are registered correctly or not? I have no idea what the form/card would look like. Also, will I get a signed vaccination card or alike?

As you can tell all my cats have been moggies!

That sounds like a good plan to me in regards to visiting / contacting quite a few breeders. Both times when i have been searching for my new kitten i have tried to contact lots of breeders to find which one seems best for me.

There were quite a few that seemed perfect on paper i.e. did all HCM screening / PK Def tests / raised kittens in home / all cats registered etc etc but i just didnt quite "click" with them - just like what Lacemoat said, they are perfectly good breeders but just didn't seem the right one for me.

That's why i always think its a good thing to speak to a few rather than just one.

Where abouts are you based, perhaps people on here could recommend some to you? Both of my kittens have ended up coming from breeders that were first brought to my attention through this forum :)

In regards to free ads by the way, as Lollo said, reputable breeders do often use them as well as an additional way to bring attention to their kittens but websites such as pets4homes are sadly often swarming with BYBs so do be careful!

I found the Bengal Kitten List to be a really useful tool when i was searching so that might be handy for you if you are in the UK?

R.e. the advertising, I think its good that good breeders advertise on these places as the average person looking for a kitten will type in something like 'kittens forsale' and look at those sites, if no good breeders are on there, then they will buy one of the not so great pretend too early kitten, at least with good breeders on there to, they can compare and make the right (hopefully) decision on their new friend
