Hello,

We've just got a 10month old half Bengal. He's use to going outdoors, but as he's new to us and the area we are keeping him in, so he gets used to his home and us. I take him out on a harness and lead around the area to get him used to his surroundings, without him going too far until he's ready to go out fully by himself.

The problem we've got, is the near enough constant talking/meowing at night, until we let him out at night. Can anyone help suggest anything that might work? He's got access to most of the house, apart from the living room, with access to food, water and his litter box. I know it's only for a short period, but a few extra hours sleep at night would be lovely!

Any advise would help!

Maybe. We do play with him, give him attention before we go to bed, make sure that he's got enough food and water to last the night. Will try and leave some toys in other parts of the house this evening and see if that helps him.

We take our two Bengals out for a walk in their walking jackets for a couple of hours every day but since summer and an early sunrise they have been keeping us awake from about 4am to 6 or 7 when they go to sleep as we get up!

We found the solution from a tip on here and now we take them out for a short walk between 9pm and 10pm. They love being out at dusk and even though they are not out for long it ensures that they sleep all night.

How long has this been going on? When I first started taking Miss Kitty outside (every day at the same time), she would constantly whine to go out. It was pretty bad, like 1 1/2 hours of nonstop whining. I ignored it & after a few days, she realized she wasn't going to get taken out again no matter how much she whined. She now seems content with going out at the scheduled time.

I'm having to listen to my Bengal howl to go outside because he was allowed outside for the first six years of his life. A violent cat fight that left him with severe injuries changed my mind. The owner turned the cat over to me and Raiden was easily trained to walk with a harness and leash. I thought that would help. It didn't! He still cried and cried at the back door to go out. I pretty much ignore him. He is good about sleeping for most of the night. My husband said he'd build a great cat enclosure on our deck, which he has done and Raiden enjoys it several times during the day. He has a cat door that allows him access 24/7. It has a roof, so he is protected from the weather.

Unfortunately, he still starts howling about the time it gets light outside. If I ignore him, he'll calm down after a few minutes. Sometimes if I tell him to lay down, he will lay down and keep quiet. I think it's getting better with time. I'm determined to let him know who is boss. His crying doesn't make his walks come any sooner. We've been out for three walks today and he is currently sleeping like a baby. We will play with him before bedtime and hope that he will sleep about 6 hours, which for me is a good night's sleep!

Thank you for all your comments. Thursday night was a real change from the previous week. Our boy was quiet, for more periods during the night, so much so I made my other half go and check that he was alright, and he was, under the computer desk in the hall! That started the talking again, but not for long. The same happened on Friday, but we just left him. So patience certainly does pay off! That being said, still not caught up with the lack of sleep yet!!

Don't worry, once the meowing subsides, you'll catch up on your sleep! Mine wakes me up after he's slept about hours, but he'll now come back to sleep after eating, even though he has food and water out all night long. He just wants to bother me. LOL
