Hello , I have had my kitten bella for 2 weeks now she is 10 weeks old and I love her to pieces!! She is so affectionate and cute. We do seem to have a problem with her biting cables though and I don't want her to get hurt! We have tried to hide away , remove anything we can to make our living room safe for her but there will always be something like tv cables you can't get rid off. Every time she bites a cable we tell her no in a Stern voice and take her out of the room for a little bit.she just doesn't seem to be listening to us and when we let her back in she runs straight to the cables again! Any advice please would be much appreciated don't want her growing up to be naughty

It is nigh on impossible to teach a tiny kitten not to do something like bite cables. You need to protect the cables a put them out of her reach.

Biting things is a typical reaction at this age as they are teething and finding their way in the world.

I am quite shocked though that a UK bengal breeder is allowing kittens to leave them at 8 weeks They should not leave until vaccinations have been completed at 12 weeks of age and Mom has had the chance to fully wean and socialise them. It really saddens me when i hear that people are still sending kittens to their new homes so young!

Thank you for your response. This is my first bengal and I honestly thought 8 weeks was an ok age for the kittens to leave their mum. Feel sad now to think she has left her too early! We have moved and hidden as many cables as we can already but will just continue to keep the house kitten safe .

You can purchase cable conduit from electrical suppliers. It is hard, flexible tubing with a slit running down one side to slide your cables in. If you have multiple cables running from one area several can go through on conduit. Works a treat.

I would also try to purchase something to cover the cables. It is probably the safest option, until you can get them you could rub lemon onto the cords or buy the bitter apple spray. When mine was a little kitten she liked chewing on one of my sons toys, which was not al that safe for either of them. Since he would be playing with it I didn't want to put anything strong on it, so I cut a lemon and ran it over the toy and let it dry. After that she never chewed it again. A few days passed and I wiped the lemon juice off and she still hasn't touched it!
