Hi there, I am due my baby girl in late June and intend on having my room as the safe room, I don't have a lot of space but I have enough room for what the baby needs I.e cat tree, bed, litter tray, cat post and food, and was just wondering if that's ok? Assuming obviously that I safe proof everything as well its just I am worried she won't enough space to run around in while she's secured to one room.

Any Advice would be great I really can't wait to have my kittie and just want what's best for her, I don't have any other room that's safe enough and I want to be able to watch over her! I am also told that she shouldn't sleep with me in my bed for a while? Why is this and when is she able to sleep on my bed? She is litter trained before leaving the breeder.

Depending on how easy it is for her to get up and down off your bed unassisted, there might be a little bit of logistical trouble. Max was too teeny to get up in our big bed so he'd stand at the side of the bed and cry, I'd roll over, half-asleep and put my hand down, he'd put his fat belly in my hand and I'd lift him up and into the bed. We almost had a few incidences when he needed to get down and use the litter box and I almost didn't wake up in time to put him down. This could have been solved by having a cat tree next to the bed or whatnot and showing him how to get up and down at will. He does think that he owns the bed now, at almost 2 years old, and is very territorial a lot of the times with the other cats, but that's the only issue we've had with letting him start out sleeping in our bed.

To be honest, our "safe room" lasted about 3 days. Our other Bengal was almost two and the two of them were not having the separation. We did close Max up in our bedroom when we were feeding him or the other two, when we left the house, or were going to sleep. Otherwise, he was more interested in following us around the house. We did monitor him closely when he was near the stairs or trying to jump on things. But, he still didn't try these things without us. Perhaps this was because he was raised in the breeder's bedroom by hand and with the "assistance" of their F1 female after his mother died. He's a People Cat.

I think that if you're attentive to her needs, paying attention to catproofing before she gets home, and are cognizant of providing safe ways to explore the things that she is interested in (and blocking access to things that will not be good until she's older), you'll be fine. In my opinion, anyway. Of course, others may (and probably will) disagree, but it worked for us with three cats (2 Bengals and a crochety Old Man) in a condo with stairs and lots of electrical things and counters to jump on.

Thank you that makes me feel loads better! I don't have a big house I just live in a cottage with my mum so was worried about lack of space and not having enough room! But I am doing a boot fair to declutter everything before she comes so majority of the dangerous stuff should be out of the way or at least out of reach! My bed is quite high but I am getting a bed which is on top of a scratching post same height as my bed so she can go from her bed to mine if needs be

I do have electricals but they can be out if sight if needs be or stored neatly away! She is being raised in a family environment anyway with young children and a dog so from what I have heard she is already adapted to the hassle and bustle of normal family life and noises so I am thinking she should be quite curious and confident when she joins us

Maybe it's a good thing I don't have a big house haha!

My advice for safe proofing is do not have multiple pieces of furniture next to each other (including just two) like a chest of drawers next to a wardrobe. This almost acts like 'stairs' to them and when one falls off, one can do some serious damage, as I leant, the hard way. So also I guess watch where cat trees are put in relationship to furniture, don't want them climbing the cat tree and onto high furniture.

Bet you cant wait tho :D just do the best you can do and you will soon learn, fast, what you may have missed!

Thank you will remember that none of my furniture is next to any other furniture thankfully I only have bookshelves which are not very high and full of heavy stuff so the girly probably won't be able to climb on there ( we hope) but will keep an eye out
