Lilly's surgery for her slipped disc has a recovery time of a month.

During that time she needs to avoid running, jumping and playing.
How the hell am I going to be able to achieve any of those????

Seriously I need help and ideas/suggestions on how I'm even going to achieve this!!!

You will need to keep her in a large crate until she is healed.

Do not think that you are being cruel by doing this. It is really important that she does not jump up (or worse,down) until the vet gives the go ahead. The crate is by far the safest option as there is nothing to tempt her to jump. Some people use a bedroom but there are always some surfaces that she will be tempted by and it is not worth the possibility of her damaging herself in my opinion.

You will feel like the worst mummy in the world but she needs you to be strong for her.

You're right I feel like the worst owner in the world.

Do you think it will be okay to transport her with me when I go to bed?? Lol

Obviously the cage thing is what I have been thinking off even tho I feel like the cruelest person EVER but at least with the cage daisy can see her. But I just feel mean keeping her in it for weeks :( my poor baby. Why did this have to happen :'( I keep crying my eyes out as I feel like a cruel owner anyways.

Bear in mind her litter tray will need to be in there too the bigger the better. You may be able to let her out to use her tray later but to start with she needs to be safe.

I think moving her in the cage might be more stressful so she may be better off in your bedroom full time to start with as it would would be quieter for her, you can always go and sit with her.

My room during the day, if its hot outside gets quite hot. Unfortunately I have loft voids either side of my room (I am so going to get an air conditioning unit installed this year lol) I dunno if I want her to be in the dining room or the lounge. It's dependant on if I want her to have human companionship or not. My mums disabled and is petty much in the lounge all day every day, the dining room isn't used as much but is where Daisy's stuff is.

The dilemma :/

I agree with the crating and let her out a few times a day for a quick leg stretch, its not nasty, your doing it to help her!

I would love to be able to put her in a spare room. Unfortunately don't have that luxury of having a spare room in the first place.

So my room which can get hot, lounge or dining room. Those are my options.

The create has been ordered and should get it at the weekend.
Will allow me plenty of time to find somewhere suitable for it before she comes home.

Is the slipped disc what has been causing her odd twitching?! (please forgive me if i have confused you for someone else, i read so many posts on here!!)

I have never had a pet that has needed surgery, so have no first hand advice to offer, but i would agree with all these other ladies and gents............. a crate sounds like your best option................... my friends cat had major pelvic/leg surgery after being hit by a car............... he had to be kept still for 6 weeks also, so she put him in a crate.............. he was fine about it, but she felt EXACTLY like you at the start, but as the first day or so passed she realised that she was doing the best thing for him and the time flew by........

I would suggest puting crate somewhere where she see through a window. remember she will have to spend lot of time in there doing someth
ing. I think thats the factor you should decide on.

My friends cat nearly lost his back leg when playing too close to train tracks! The skin and tendons had to be grafted back and stitched up. He was in a large dog crate for nearly 3 months, and his 5 brothers / sisters had free roam. He was actually relieved to not have the daily hassle, and used to sit there lording it over the others who had to watch him scoff his private food in peace! Even had his own personal loo....

About ten years on, if Tanya gets the crate out for her mad dog to go into, Harvey is stood at the door wanting to get in and have peace and quiet! And at 15 years old, he's forgiven but never forgotten - To him, being crated has all good memories!

If you are worried about the heat, get a heavy white cloth to cover the top with, and use a portable fan to cool the room / circulate the air - Not pointed right at the cage, though!

You will feel guilty, because Lilly has the upper hand, and will use it against you - But, secretly, she will be relieved! And anyway - That is your job!

Lori - the slipped disc is in fact causing the twitching. Took me 2 months and a specialist vet referral to get to the bottom of it (and a lot of expense for pet insurance)

We have decided that we are going to rearrange the furniture a bit in the lounge. Lilly spends the majority of her time in there during the day and loves sunning herself in the sun and watching the birds through the French doors. We believe that being here would be probably better for her, by the doors so she can still see the world as she knows it :)
