Basil is suppose to be encouraged to drink a lot of water.
Now that he's been on all wet food,- I don't know the last time I've witnessed him drinking water. I'm sure he does, but not while I'm home.
He use to drink a lot more when he was on dry I'm sure because his body was needing it more.

So to encourage drinking water, I've placed an extra water bowl in the house, and today I went out to purchase a cat water fountain. I thought if his water was more interesting he might just think to drink a little more. But ..haha, he didn't seem to care about his fountain! He actually tried to bury it a little bit ago as if it was food/poop.

Any suggestions to encourage more water drinking? :)

BB never drank out of her fountain either but she insisted on soaking everything! If I haven't noticed her drinking in a while I put an ice cube in her bowl and she bats it around and licks her paws clean. After she has had fun with it she will drink a little and be on her way! I think that has started her putting toys in the water bowl tho! Even tho it might be a hassle to clean up the mess from saturated toys at least I know she is getting water.

You could always add a spoon of water to his wet food as well.

I would add water to the food, I do this at most meals. I have a water fountain and they never drink out of it (or anything else).

Yes I actually do add water to his food! but sometimes he lets his food sit out for an hour before he eats it and it kind of dries up.
I worry about bacteria with it? How long can you leave food out before the bacteria gets bad?

They get 90% of water from wet meat so you will rarely if ever see them drink, but if he needs to drink you could put some in his wet meat, if you cooked chicken breast in the oven I mix that with water, or could try cat milk diluted with water of a tap, seem to love drinking from taps

At the zoo in the summer I have seen them give the big cats frozen blocks of chicken or beef broth and ice blocks with meat inside. I wonder if you could freeze some wet cat food + water ice cubes?
