Oh yeah, the food container shake works every time. The sound of a can being opened works most of the time unless they've just gorged themselves on dry food. And for Binky, opening the fridge is just as good. (He knows his favorite frozen food is being thawed in there. The others are not as addicted to it as he is though.)

Thanks everyone for the help. Big boy does seem to respond now when he is out of line of sight, the youngster sometimes comes when called but most times ingnors his name. We will keep on trying.

Hi Moshi & Indianas mum

I believe you are right about the names ending in eee as when I purchased my dog my next door neighbour suggested when naming her to do exactly that. She did go into detail about why but can't remember at the mo (must ask her) so I would imagine maybe works the same for cats.

I hope this helps with original question and I think the more often their names are used they get to learn :D

I can't remember where I read it (probably on here somewhere) but if you use names that end in an "ee" sound they respond better. I know when we call Indiana he responds better when we call Indy instead.

Haha... I should be well off then, since my cat's names are Yuki, Sasami and Kinomi. They all end with the "ee" sound. :)

All three of mine will look up when you say their names. Eventually.

I just tried saying their names since they're all here in the room with me, but they're asleep. I just got some groggy kitty stares. :P
