So Lilly, being 5 months old today, decided to come in to season yesterday. She's calling, extremely affectionate and wants to do nothing but snuggle up, and cry the house down.

Vets will not do her until she's 6 months old at the very minimum, how long can I expect this calling to happen?

Normally she's in her safe room over night, but last night she didn't cope to well with that and I'm dreading tonight.

It can go on for 7 - 10 days but most 'first calls' tend to last 5-7 days in my experience. It does vary greatly from cat to cat and even between the different breeds. My Tonk girl calls for around 7 days and then stops for 14 days before calling again unless she is mated or given a hormone drug (not recommended for maiden queens so certainly not an option in a pet kitten prior to neutering).

I may get 'shot' for saying this.... there is a drug you can buy over the counter called Piriton (Chlorpheniramine) which is an antihistamine. It comes in 5mg tablets and you can give 1/4 tablet at bedtime to make her 'drowsy' and give her a rest. Make sure it isn't the 'non drowsy' formula. Does depend a little on how big she is, less than 2kg and i wouldn't advise it so much. We have used it on our girls to give them a rest as they scream on/off all day. They do not eat properly nor sleep so lose weight. We use it, therefore, to minimise some of the stress for them.....

She's been off her food for a few days now and sleeping, well she still seems to do a fair bit of that but she's lost interest in playing with her toys and is more content with yelling and rubbing everything.

She's almost 2.5kg so she's a healthy weight. She's due to be spayed 2nd may but I may see if the vets will bring it forward a bit and do it when she's 5 and a half months old so in 2 weeks time. That way I know she's out of season and should catch it before she comes in again.

I just don't wanna leave her :( so tempted to bring her up in to bed with me tonight and she's been snuggling up with me during the day under the covers. May see how it goes and if she's bad then bring her up.

My youngest queen, now 10 months old so still too young for babies, is a snuggler when she is starting to call. Now she has had 3 big calls she is less snuggly and more 'whore like'

So long as she is sleeping i would not give her the Piriton. I just use it on occasion to give the girls a rest and the neuters a break from the lap dances

I'm loving these cuddles. Right little snugglebug :) just hate the calling :( sounds like she's distressed.

When I was in Korea, my vet also wouldn't neuter before 6 months but as soon as I told him she was on heat, he operated. Worth asking your vet to reconsider in my opinion.

My kittie went on heat at 17 weeks and was operated on at 18 weeks. The heat lasted five days.

Well my vet who was adamant on no younger than 6 months and to try and leave it as long as possible has all of a sudden offered to do it next week now she's in season.

She's due to be spayed on Wednesday hopefully by then she's stopped calling as today is the third day

I wonder why they wont neuter her a few weeks early? Is it not a confident vet? Maybe ring around the other vets, no need to wait if she is calling young

They are doing her early! In fact it's like a month earlier than what I originally had her booked for.

Just wish this calling would stop. I had a dream of a lay in, that was short lived after her cries woke me up at 7am :( bengals should come with volume controls lol
