If it were me I'd definitely get a second one, because it's pretty likely that it will benefit your other cat, and benefit you as well. I think what you'll realize is that many of the really cool cat behaviors you'll really only witness when two cats are interacting with each other. But at the same time I think you have to prepare yourself for the possibility that they might not get along right away, and/or that they might not become inseparable friends as adults. Your resident kitty might resent the fact that you added a "rival", and hold that against you for some time also. It can lead to problems like her not wanting to interact with you, peeing/pooing outside her litterbox, etc. But if you get a kitten, at least the introduction part should be easier.
So if you do it, set your expectations at a reasonable level, hope for the best but plan for the worst, and commit to seeing it through, even if it isn't easy.
I've always been partial to female cats, but that's just me.
