Hi! This is probably a bit off topic but thought i'd put it out there in case anyone else has shared a similar experience! (probably not though)! It's a bit of a 'no solution' problem!

I have a 4 month old bengal kitten who has been great. Since I got him he has been sleeping in the lounge and has mostly been good with that. My partner protested me getting a cat and finally said I could get him if he wasn't allowed in our bedroom - at all.

Django knows i'm in my room and lately has been meowing and meowing to come in at night or early in the morning. I really want to sleep with him but my partner is a huge stubborn (so and so).

If I ignore his meows he doesn't really stop!! It's not fair to lock him out anyway! I only think it will get worse as he knows i'm in there and cant figure out why he cant be.

I suppose my only solution is to get a bed for the spare room. Spending nights on the couch isn't cutting it!

Anyway, I suppose I just wanted to vent!!!

Is the problem that your BF doesn't want the cat in the bed at night or not the bedroom at all?

Could you compromise and put a cat tree/cat bed in the room for the cat? In an attempt to keep the cat off the bed?

Nope doesn't want him in there at all - even when he's not there.

Think I should probably just get rid of the BF! haha

That's fantastic your OH came around! Your kitties look so gorgeous! Are they early generation bengals? Looks so ALC like!

I just bought a bed for the spare room so maybe he'll come around when he's lonely! I agree I cant imagine not sleeping with my Django. He isn't much of a lap cat when I get home from work, racing around, otherwise he likes to sleep on the high point of the couch, not on my lap. So I really enjoy spending nice quiet time sleeping with him at night!
I don't want him to be lonely!

In the meantime his gym room will be mine and Django's room! Cuz I "just dont like gym stuff" hahaha. Two can play that game :P

That's a little silly to me!!! A relationship is about compromise but you can't put rules and limitations on another living being if you allow it in your house men!!!! I don't see the point of trying to sleep with a screaming cat at your door when all he would have to do is let him in! Silly Silly! I think if you just give it time and don't push the issue to much he will come around! It took me three years before I allowed my husband to get a cat, now I am a crazy cat lady! Give him time to bond and instaed of arguing about the baby encourage him to play with him! Make him a real living thing with feelings in your BF eyes instead of a fur ball that he is having to compete with!

Is it your house or your boyfriends house?

If its your house, then its a simple case of saying to him "my house, my rules".
If he doesn't like it, then remind him there are plenty of guys out there that adore cats.

On the other hand, if its his house, then you have another strategy. Just withhold all "favours" until he see things your way.

Just to provide another view point, I won't let our cats in the bedroom with us at night any more because if they are allowed in they all sleep right on top of me and make me really hot and uncomfortable and unable to move and also spend hours attacking our feet and generally misbehaving I'm a very light sleeper and with the cats in the room I never get any sleep so after months of this I decided that they were no longer allowed in with us. Dan wants them to be allowed to sleep in the room with us but they never sleep all over him and he's a very deep sleeper so all the jumping on faces and foot hunting doesn't affect him but he understands why I can't get any rest if they are in our room and so accepts that I'm not being unreasonable in needing a few hours of decent sleep. The cats were a bit confused and cried/scratched at the door for a while but they soon realised that it wasn't getting them anywhere and now they just sleep on the sofa all together on top of the cushions instead of me

I don't think your boyfriend is being unreasonable in not wanting your kitten in the bedroom, especially if he was unsure about getting a cat in the first place, he has already compromised a lot in agreeing to you getting a kitten he didn't necessarily want so now you have to compromise too and rather than just calling him an idiot and getting angry with him you need to bring him round slowly and he will soon learn that cats are wonderful and you may well find that he changes his mind in the future.

Jenda, you do make a sound, rational argument for not letting your own cats (multiple) in your room at night, and I can totally understand and agree with that. But what's upsetting about jaz&django's boyfriend not wanting to let the kitten in, is that (according to her) he has no real reason. Just "doesn't like cats". Sorry, but that just doesn't fly with me, lol. Having a valid reason is one thing, just being selfish and close-minded is another... I'll admit I am a little extreme though, I just don't have time for people that don't like cats, they are literally my life.

If I let my cats sleep with me, I would never get any sleep. They fight too much, and I also got a very nasty scratch to my eye when I was lying down resting (middle of the day, I had a headache) and Oscar decided to climb across my metal headboard, and fall off onto my face.

I occasionally let Ella under my covers when she's upset, as she feels safe there and likes to hide in my bed from Oscar.

Just because someone doesn't want their cats in the bedroom over night does not make them not a cat lover lol

I don't have any of mine in my room either thanks - they would drive me insane and I value my sleep
The only time I ever have a cat in my room is if its poorly/recovering from a spay.
