Hi and welcome
I agree, all cats will act differently when introducing another cat - young or old, they're all very varied in personality.
I've known of an introduction between an 11 yr old DSH female and an 8 week DSH female kitten. It didn't go well, because the 12 yr old cat was so set in her ways, she simply would not accept the kitten. They permanently hissed at each other and never learnt to get along. Although they lived under the same roof, they would stay as far away form each other as possible.
Other cats will be snuggled up together within a week!
IMO, i find that the male/female combination works best.
All i can suggest is, if you really want to give it a go, take things slowly, introduce them a little at a time and make sure the older cat has somewhere safe they can go away from the kitten, and vice versa.
Older cats are not as tolerant and tend to want more peace and quiet/rest, whereas kittens will go on and on, pushing to play.
I hope it all works out well for you and both cats. x
