I received a warning from a good friend this morning and I thought I ought to give others the head's-up. Please read this article published in "The Times" on Saturday

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article2886450.ece

Apparently it's a big concern for cat owners in certain parts of France and Switzerland, although the following quote makes me think we should be alert here in the UK too!

Quote:
"They insist that they buy skins from wild felines killed in Switzerland and Britain."

Do we have many wild felines in Britain? Do they mean wild feline's like the Scottish wild cat? or are they targeting the feral cat communities? I'm horrified that either would be considered acceptable. Worst still, could it be that our pet cats are being stolen as feared in France? :?

Yet again, another reason why NOT to let your cats outdoors!

Of course I know about this :(.

For the moment it's a concern only in Savoie and Haute Savoie (next to Switzerland) but something like 15 cats were stolen in one night in a village...

Switzerland should seriously reconsider their position about cats and dogs fur.

There are petitions in France about this and they talk about it on the news...

wild cats in britain???

this is alarming, also brings me back to an email i was sent about a year ago regarding caution on the part of all bengal breeders. a known mink farmer had been contacting several breeders with regards to buying kittens...even buying whole litters. as far as i'm aware he didn't get any, but it still pays to be on your guard.

these people could buy cats with a mind to breed for their fur, so even if your cats don't go outside, it's not only the people stealing cats we need to worry about.

just be careful everyone.
