hi there all bengal cat owners. I am new to this so please accept my apologies for any mistakes i make. I have a 13 month old bengal and yes he loves the great outdoors. Few months back i thought i lost him because he was missing for about five minutes. it kept happening for a while and the stress was making me ill. i looked for all sorts of stuff on the net until i came across locator lite. It allows me to know which direction his in and i feel alot stress free. i am however on my third tag and they are a bit expensive. I have noticed alot of lost cats in my neighbourhood. They are either not microchipped or neutered which is sad. What i would like to know is at what age can i be sure that he will be old enough not to get lost.

i dont know if its just me but i looked at your pictures and must say that your bengal must be the happiest cat in the world . i live in the south so we dont have to much pretty senery like you do over there. it looks as if you include him in everything and he looks so happy and content! if i were a cat i would want his life. just saying..i think my cat has a good life but im just to scared to bring him outside unless he has his leash. and i would love to invest in one of those collars but theres this stray...and i dont want him giving my cat any diseases or fighting with him. plus i currently live in a apartment complex....but if i had land were he could roam and i could watch and not worry i deff would.

Thanks for resurrecting my thread. I think I came off wrong in the beginning and it overshadowed the benefit of the loc8tor.

SAFARI MOM, ya he's super lucky and he knows it. I think that's why he behaves so well outdoors. There's absolutely no way he'd get the freedom or get involved in the things he does without the loc8tor. I don't live somewhere with a place to roam either. Those outdoor pictures are from different "Kitty Kamping Adventures" I did a thread on it viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15611 At home we go for walks just like on a leash. But when I stop and talk to someone he doesn't get upset like on the leash but wonders around. Then I just use the loc8tor to find him. boohoo I don't know how you can lose the tags. The handheld unit sure, I can't believe I haven't lost it or put it in the washing machine yet. But finding the tags is how the system works or your cat goes way to far IMHO. +1 echoplexia "Um....Never"

The mods I made to my tag disabled anyway for me to know the batteries low. I was freaking out one day trying to find him with no luck. I gave up and hoped he'd come home on his own. Then I herd him call he was right in front of my house in a bush. The ground was warm under him so he was there the whole time I made another mod so his collar is now rechargeable so I just top it off occasionally.

I'm also working on the collar/choking issue that everyone brought to my attention. I think it will be better received but its a few weeks away before its done. I probably just start a new thread for it.

I was thinking about seeing if I can convince the mods for a review section. I regret not getting the regular version over the lite. It has a perimeter function and longer range, uses common batteries and works better in daylight. One thing drives me NUTS about the lite is the auto off function its too soon. I'll be looking and not realize its off but when did it turn off? How far do I back track? If it wasn't so essential to me and Pouncey I'm sure I would have smashed it by now when it turns off itself.

I actually think this is a good idea! I have four kids that are constantly going outside to play and coming back in for a drink, use the bathroom whatever it might be! My liitle BB likes to wait for the right moment and run out the door! She has just now became confident enough to get off the porch! One day we were all out playing and the cat and dog was inside it was about 95 degrees and we came in after the kids were swimming for a while, I looked for BB because she usually comes running to me when we come in! There was no BB, yes she has a collar that is a break away actually its all elastic and she can pull it off herself, but it has a tag with her micro id name our address and phone number one it, we searched for her inside for about 30 minutes and then I started freaking out that maybe when one of the kids went in she went out! I had all of my neighbors out looking for her we were like a search party looking for a missing child there was 16 of us looking. About 2 hours missing she comes strolling out of my sons room! She had wedged her way down in between the wall and his baby crib! I was crying having panic attacks I was TOTALLY freaked out! What I would have done to have had something like that! It would have been great and I am sure that is not the only time something like that will happen so I will be looking into investing in something of that nature!

We actually just went to a pet store yesterday and bought her a new one. That was a temporary kitten collar! The one we have now is a break away and it should be safe it was dollars! Honestly the only reason we even have a collar is the fact that if she were to get out and picked up by animal control she would be put down! Even though she is chipped by volunteering there I have found that they often dont even scan them! So we got the tag made! I know it might be cheap thing and would likely come off if she was to escape because of the break away collar but it gives me a little peice of mind!

We're the same here, all animals need visible identification. So if you take your cat or dog outside you must have a collar. I pray they would scan first and they did return my neighbors cat after they checked the chip, but they fined them too. I can see it being more work for them to check and return.

Here if you have an animal that animal control picks up you are fined $500! That is for a cat its $1000 for a large dog even if you have a microchip and a collar with ID on it! Its nuts now maybe this will shed a little light on why some people dont have a choice but to use collars! We live 5 house down from my daughters school so they are even more strict on it here! Although cats that are picked up are destroyed they dont even have a shelter for cats in the county I live in!
