Just to bring up an old post...

I have been using wood pellet litter as that is what Benji was brought up on and it has worked well for me.
The litter box is right next to the toilet, so it has been a case of scooping the poop out and the sawdust and flushing down the toilet.
Have learned to be careful not to block the toilet as this can be quite easy to do.

But, the toilet became blocked last weekend and it would not clear. had to call out dyno rod to put a high pressure jet down the drain to clear it.
The thing is, I'm not sure if it is 2 years worth of wood litter that caused it or just natural clogging up.
There is a chance it could be the former as my house was unoccupied for a few years before I moved in and the gutters etc were overflowing - so I always wondered if the drains were clogged but they seemed fine. maybe not.

So question is, do you think its ok to flush wood based litter?

I have been using bin bags to clear out the litter but this is a right pain, suppose the second tray idea would be less of a pain but not as convenient as flushing!

I used wood pellet. It doesn't create dust problems (which made my cats sneeze) and creates much less mess outside the litter tray.

I can't flush as I'm not on mains drainage so this isn't an issue for me.

I use a clumping litter and have been amazed at how well it controls the odor. I do remove the waste as soon as I know he's used the litterbox, but he may use it a few times while I'm at work. I love my Litter Genie. My husband's main concern was an odor as he claims you can always tell when someone has an indoor cat the second you walk through the door -- but this go round, the odor is only there if he's just pooped -- and I tell my husband that our bathroom doesn't always smell the best after he's been in there. LOL. As for liners ... I was talked into buying some that sifted out the waste. I have an open litterbox and a closed letterbox. I line them with a plastic garbage bag. I also put the litterbox on top of a larger black garbage bag, so when I have to empty the entire thing, I use the black garbage bag.

This topic made me literally laugh out loud. I had posted about "Scented or Unscented Litter", as Diablo's poop also stinks up the whole room!!! I finally found Odour Busters which is supposed to be an amazing clumping litter. "The “Odour Buster Once a Week” recipe was invented in 2003. It took years of research & development. After reading all this, I decided to try it. I like the fact that you do not have to throw away the entire litter, you can re-use it once you wash out the box, and add more. However, it does not mask the odour at all....Diablo's scent is worse than a pig's or a chicken!!!!!
