I've noticed that Mikesch caught and almost ate a firefly in the basement. Luckily I could get it away from him because apparently some fireflies in the US are toxic for pet reptiles and birds. Does anyone know if they are also dangerous for cats? I guess the blinking bugs are just as irresistible as laser pointers!

I think they are. I know they are toxic for bearded dragons. I have two of them. But, we don't get fireflies where I live. So I guess I'm safe. I wouldn't let Mikesch get near them, better safe then sorry. Maybe call your vet and ask.

He's seems to have taken no harm, but then he didn't swallow it either. He just loves to hunt and play; food is secondary. Maybe/hopefully they smell/taste weird and he won't try eating them. In any case, I've made sure that there are no more fireflies in the basement to tempt him. Are there any other insects I need to be watching out for because they're harmful to cats?
