Wow! Thank you ALL for all of these posts and kind words! (For some reason I did not get an email notifying me that people responded to my post....I'll have to look into that!)
To update you all, After hours and hours of crying, a lot of discussion, and a lot of thought....my boyfriend told me that he would do his best to make it work with the kittens
We are not giving them up!!! I couldn't be happier! He has been sleeping with ear plugs every night so the noises and cries haven't been waking him. The boys still run around like crazy at night, but not as long. Now they jump in the bed with us in the middle of the night and start to meow, purr, and nurse on the blanket, which wakes him, so I might have to start keeping them out of the room again. (We don't have a downstairs- we live in a 2 bedroom apartment in Queens NY) In any case, they are getting better! I also received an unexpected bonus at work to help cover the cat expenses (I've already gone out and bought them a new kitty bed and some new toys to celebrate! The rest will be tucked away for kitten expenses that come up in the future) As for the wet food- my vet thinks that the dry food is higher in fat? and contributes to the growing rate of cat obesity? He said he used to recommend dry food for years, but a lot of research has found that dry food is too high in fat and sugar and recommends an all wet food diet? (This is the same vet who said not to give them raw chicken and tells me not to give them any human food..chicken, turkey, fish, etc....
)
I guess if you go to 2 different doctors you will hear 2 different things, and the same goes for vets.
We have decided to compromise...instead of just giving them a can of wet in the morning and a can of wet in the evening with no dry food, we have now been giving them half a can each in the morning and night, and also leaving 1/3 cup of dry food out during the day. (Instead of the huge bowl I was leaving out to pick on whenever they felt like it) Diablo's bowel movements are now normal again (they were very soft since we got him from the breeder- I guess the dry food was contributing to that! She has told me she thought it was the wet food) So I think this was a good compromise...they seem happy and healthy and to be doing very well!
We were told Yuki has a heart murmur, so that is another reason the smoke was one of my concerns....
I do travel a lot, but usually my boyfriend will be there with them,so they won't be alone. I just felt bad going away and leaving them with him when he was feeling this way.
As for getting rid of the boyfriend
I considered it for about 2 seconds...he really is a VERY good man and did not want to have to give them up either...he has never had a pet before and is still learning and getting use to it (just as they are getting used to us) He loves them just as much as I do- LOOK!
This is what I came home to the other day!!! Yuki cuddling with him and Diablo sleeping on the couch right above his shoulder!
Again, I REALLY thank you all for being there for me and offering suggestions and such kind words!!!
Hugs from NY! xoxox
