My 2 roommates moved out and took their 2 cats with them. Oberon (10 years old) clearly misses them and wants me to play ALL the time now. I am thinking he needs a buddy. I was thinking a 4-10 year old short hair, maybe a female so there is less fighting for dominance.

Any advice or suggestions? Would another Bengal be a good idea or bad idea?

Oberon is very spirited and healthy, but he is getting on in years. Would a young adult Bengal be too much for him?

You're the only one who knows Oberon. I don't know that another bengal is needed, although a younger DSH may be the answer. Oberon has a high energy level and an older DSH probably wouldn't want to chase and play. A female probably wouldn't be as dominating. Who was the alpha cat when you had roommates? I truly wish there were a way to "test" out a new cat just like you can test drive a car. That way you aren't committed if things don't work out and you can adopt if things do. We all know there are wonderful kitties needing homes, so if I were you, I'd rescue a cute female, three to five years old, from a shelter. Once they are properly introduced, they should be great with each other. Oberon sounds like a wonderful kitty and would be a great big brother. Let us know what you end up doing and good luck.

Great thoughts, Brian. A kitten requires a lot of patience -- I would never have a kitten again because I barely have patience for Raiden who is 12 years old. Hope ColoVega os much younger and does have lots of patience. LOL

Raiden was a singleton until Long Legs was allowed to come into the house. They are not the best of buddies but leave each other alone for the most part. When Long Legs comes in the house in the morning, Raiden is waiting for him and Legs has to wash Raiden's head. I've dealt with kittens before and they are just a handful until they grow up. I love cats and have always had cats, but I'm hoping these are my last two.

I found a buddy for Oberon! We are still in the introduction phase, I brought the new guy home Friday. Started him off in my master bath and brought Oberon in for a look see Saturday morning. Oberon was dying of curiosity and kept yowling question marks.

I was thrilled to know that I could control the locks to the bedroom and bathroom from the outside when I saw there was a slot for a coin or a fingernail. Without that, Oberon would have been able to open doors before I thought TangTang was ready.

Saturday afternoon I let TangTang, the new guy, have access to both the bedroom and bath area. Occasionally I would bring in Oberon supervised. Oberon was surprisingly welcoming and polite, probably because he now feels secure where 2 years ago he had so many changes he didn't know which end was up. The only real altercation was when I went to close the window in the evening, TangTang didn't move when I expected him to and instead lashed out at me. Oberon rushed in to protect me as to say "Don't mess with my hooman. She is the source of many good things."

This morning I let TangTang have run of the whole condo. Many windows, bookcases and cupboards to explore.

I had stopped at PetSmart pet charity adoption center, and he was listed as being a dog trapped in a cat's body. Orange 4 year old shorthair with a bobbed tail and rabbit-like haunches. I believe he is a Manx with a stubby tail. They are very friendly, playful and doglike. I think they will be best buddies soon.

Why cringe? Both dogs and cats are wonderful creatures, although I adore cats and tolerate doggo's for the most part. I take comments that a cat or breed of cat is dog-like to neither be a compliment nor an insult, simply an observation that they are different from the average feline. That they may be an extraordinary oxymoron.

Oberon chews on rubber toys and rubber Croc shoes... like a dog.. and unlike most cats.
Oberon likes to be thumped on the side... like a dog,, and harder than most cats.
Oberon comes when called... like a dog... and like no other cat that I know.
Oberon will growl and pull on a fishing toy,,, like a dog playing tug of war. He has only recently learned to release the toy like other cats.
Oberon rushes to protect me from perceived danger... like a dog and like no other cat that I have owned.

Oberon also purrs, makes biscuits, head bumps, loves chin and ears scratched, tummy rubbed and uses litter boxes (and the toilet) ... unlike most dogs.

I haven't gotten to know TangTang well enough to know his quirks and idiosyncrasies, but I suspect that he plays fetch from what I have been told.

Well, Raiden doesn't act like a dog at all. Doesn't chew on anything, won't come when I call his name, doesn't growl at anything except another cat that he sees. I'm almost disappointed. LOL.

Then again, I don't think mine is a typical bengal and Oberon is! Please post a picture of TangTang. We would love to see him. Wait, we need to see Oberon, too.
