We are new bengal owners (about 2 1/2 weeks now) and want to start introducing Bacci to my fathers dog whom we dog-sit fairly often for a few hours a day. Bentley (the dog) is a relatively small dog at 16lbs and very friendly. He lives with a cat at home and is a very friendly dog to both people and other animals no matter the type.
Bacci has definitely become comfortable in our apartment and loves us dearly as he always wants to be playing with one of us or in our laps. When I brought Bentley over today to meet Bacci, the cat immediately fluffed up, arched his back and started hissing. If I brought him into the other room he was fine and playful, but once out and seeing the dog he puffed up, hissed and growled. I do not want to cause undue stress on our little Bacci since it is his home and the dog is simply visiting, but I do want them to get along well. Should I "force" them to at least be near each other for a bit? Bentley does not seem to care one way or another (as we speak he is sleeping next to me on the couch) but when Bacci starts growling and hissing, he starts to bark a bit. Some have told me to just let them meet each other for 20 min. intervals and eventually they will just get used to each other. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
