We have had our Bengal boy for about a month; he is now about 3 1/2 months old.

We are planning to get a second kitten, same approximate age, from a rescue group or shelter. Not another purebred, just a kitty who needs a good home, preferably a tabby.

We've heard conflicting advice on whether it would be better to get another male, or if a female would be better. They both would be spayed/neutered. We want to make sure the 2 cats would get along well and be lifelong buddies.

I assume Bengals can get along with other breeds? Any advice on whether it would be better to get a female, or another male? Thanks.

Having reading the posts about getting a kitten for your bengals it doesn't cover the answer of what I'm going to ask..........so if anyway is out there who could perhaps have an idea, that would be great.

Our female bengal is 8 yrs old and she dislikes other cats with a vengeance but we were wondering if she would still feel the same if we introduced a kitten to her ? would she still feel the same way or would actually enjoy having a kitten around.

Any feedback would be good to hear !!

If your girl doesn't like other cats and she is 8 years old you might find it very difficult to introduce a cat or kitten.
If you decide to give it a try then a boy would be better than another female. Introductions would have to be done very slowly and carefully to accomodate the feelings of both cats.
Personal opinion is you would be better off being the proud owner of 1 cat at this time.

i agree it would be very unfair to introduce a kitten to most 8 year old cats but to a cat that hates other cats i think you would be tempting fate. she will want to laze about and wont tollerate a tormentative kitten that will tease and taunt her to play.

Many thanks for your comments Liz & Macchiato......I guess we kind of knew what you were saying but was living with the hope that she would adapt as she spends so much time on her own when outside and in the house. She's a very opinionated cat and will only allow you to pet her on her terms and then she loves it & purrs like mad.........but try to do that when shes outside or when shes not in the mood its a definate No No !!

We'll leave the kitten for now !!

We are going on holiday tomorrow so we took her to the cattery tonight for the very first time and I don't think she was very happy at all......... a nice little black cat was opposite her run and she was hissing like mad at her which we've never seen her do !! Just hopes she settles down.
