Tomorrow lil miss Asia goes in for her spay appointment. She will be 8 months old next week. I waited a bit as she is teeny, and with the cold weather, we guessed her heat cycle would delay (no sign yet, yay).

I have worked at vets in the past, and this is my fourth feline (and I have had several dogs along the way too), so would think this would be no big deal.

But alas, Asia has officially wrapped me around her little paws, and I have been dreading this. All the advice I give friends about worry, ect, I cannot seem to take myself, LOL. Grrrrr.










We went in for pre surgery bloodwork on Monday...HA. That did not go well. I have worked on her handling quite a bit, and she is good with me. But apparently that all went out the window, and I heard quite a ruckus in the back of the clinic. Even though she is teeny, she is solid muscle, and its like holding a monkey down.


So I will have her up to the clinic early tomorrow morning, and then off to wait by the phone to race and pick her up in the afternoon. I suspect she may give them an earful and hoping for an early call

Aw, i know that feeling.... i was called at 1pm and asked to collect my Darcy as she was causing mayhem at the vets lol... it should have been 4/5pm.... i was secretly pleased she had created such a fuss as i got her home early......

Aww, I'm sure she'll be fine. All my females over the years have been OK and haven't even needed a collar or anything afterwards. Poppy took a little longer to recover fully than Delilah or Dolly but she turned out to be a bit more complicated because the vet discovered she was a hermaphrodite when he opened her up!

Isn't that always the way...we are good at dishing out advice but not so good at listening to it ourselves!
No matter how often you go through it, it doesn't get any easier either. I just had 2 girls in for their spays last week & was just as worried as my first one until I got that call to say they were fine.
I'm sure all will go like clockwork & she'll soon be back home & happy

Oh, it's going to be a long day for you. The waiting is just the worse. I was completely non-functional the day of Tasha's spay. But there will be such relief when Asia comes home and you get to cuddle her. If she's smart (and my guess is she is, quite) she will work on your sympathy and concern and really get indulged for a while, lol!

Just as a quick update....



-Spay went fine, she came home early afternoon. When I went to pick her up, she looked SOOOOO teeny curled in the corner of her crate. As soon as she saw me her eyes got huge and she was purring and rubbing, AND, suddenly wanted to say hi to everyone and see everything. The staff said she was super skittish...but she was a totally different cat around me. She is a momma's girl, sigh.

-She did okay all afternoon at home, little off from the anesthesia, but mostly napped.

-Gave her pain meds after dinner late as instructed, and this is where things went complicated. She had a reaction to the meds, and became SUPER hyper, restless, and a bit paranoid. Started going after her incision with a drug induced craziness....sigh. I couldn't put anything on her (cone, sock, ect), because she was so paranoid it created a frenzy. Crates, alone in a dark room, she went nuts to escape. So I stayed up all night and tried to keep her calm and keep her from hurting herself.

-Took about 12 hours, but once the meds wore off, she was exhausted (and so was I), and she slept the day away...PHEW.

Fast forward to today, and she is fine. She is probably too active, and I try to keep her from dashing up and down the cat tree, or wrestling with her brother....but frankly she is not phased by the ordeal.

Silly beasts. We survived from the looks of it though...lol.

So glad Asia is ok, and what a sweetie at the vets once she felt secure with her mommy! Omg! Same thing happened to Tasha with the pain med (buprenex, an opiate). They sent her home with it, and kept telling me to give it to her because the vet said she was agitated because of pain. She was up and completely crazy for 24 hours. She was running, jumping, and some of the stitches came loose. Finally I figured out to NOT give her the meds and she calmed down. I wonder if this is common in bengals to have a paradoxical reaction to opiates?
