Hi I am new to this forum and really considering a bengal after losing my cat of 15 years. I have a question about experiences with bengal cats and dogs. My serious boyfriend has a dog, golden retriver mix and I while we don't live together now we will probably marry someday. I am definitely a cat person and I hope that realistically I can have a cat who will get along with his dog. Are bengal cats any more likely to accept a dog than other breeds? What are peoples experience with introducing the two.
Thanks

I have a golden retriever and my bengal and the dog took to each other better than the other cats did. Retrievers are so placid and will accept anything and they have little choice when a bengal starts jumping on them anyway. They will get on fine in sure.

I wonder how it would work out to have a cat around a dog only part time from kittenhood and then around the dog on a daily basis a year later? I currently do not live with a dog, but my boyfriend has a dog and we are planning to live in the same home at some point down the line. I wonder if anyone has had a part time dog in a bengals life? My boyfriend is concerned that the cat will in fact beat up on the dog, which I don't think would happen. Am I being selfish to want a cat so badly now and should I wait until I am with this dog full time before I get the cat?

Thanks so much for fielding these questions.

Bengals *love* dogs. They prefer them to people. I've placed many rescue bengals into homes with dogs with few problems. It's up to the dog. Keep them apart for about 2 weeks, and then slowly introduce them to each other (with you or someone they both trust present). At first there will be the usual jousting, but eventually they'll be best friends!
