Hi,

New to the website. My family and I just bought a 4 month old female Bengal. We named her Asia. We can't wait to bring her home. She is at the vets recuperating from being spayed.

We have been told that Bengals like to climb and get up in high places. Should we get a "Cat Condo/Tree"?

Also what type of food should we feed her? We bought Royal Canin 34 for Kitten's. We were told that Royal Canin is a good food for Bengal's due to their problems with their GI's.

Thank you for any advice you may have to give.

Bengals all seem to love being as high up as they can be (if you look at the gallery you should see pictures of Bengals hanging from the tops of doors!). You'll probably find that your shoulder makes a great perch for Asia to view her domain from

We had a cat tree but my two boys have demolished it in the space of a few months - they were fine as kittens but as they've grown bigger and heavier the tree just couldn't take the strain.....it's up to you - it's a good idea to get a scratching post at least, so maybe get a small-ish cat tree with some sisal (rope) around the stem and see how she gets on.

With food, we gave our boys Royal Canin 34 as that's what they'd been reared on but then introduced them to another dried brand that was just as good nutritionally but not so expensive - we just mixed it in gradually until we weaned them off the RC34. They haven't suffered at all from this and are big and strong! They also have wet food once a day - not too much as it isn't good for their figures! Occasionally I'll give them tinned fish (I get pilchards or tuna for cats but you can also use "human" tinned fish in water - not brine or oil).

I definitely recommend a cat tree! My bengal LOVES it, and will constantly be found on top of one playing all by himself... so cute.

I have a *very* heavy cat tree... I wish I could remember where I found it online. It is made of real wood and has a very sturdy base - very tall, too. It was worth every cent.

My other cat tree isn't as sturdy, so I kind of pinned it to the wall. Yuki used to literally jump all the way to the top of it without trying to climb, and he'd knock it over. All. The. Time. Pinning it was the only option, but it worked!

I never knew about bengals having GI problems - could someone give me some information on that? I know Yuki was having a few problems last year, although he is fine now...
