I have noticed on this forum this noone has really said much on this (apart from the usual about their beauty, intelligence, wild heritage, etc).
I didnt even know what a bengal cat was until just before Christmas 2004. I was on the internet researching persians, and in particular white Chinchillas
I know nothing like a bengal in any way
but I wanted to get a companion for my ginger and white OAP cat, 'SANDY'. I saw one in a James Bond film and very much wanted one. I discovered bengals on a search engine, and literally changed my choice overnight
I got my first bengal, Tiger Lily in april 2005.
I suppose one of the main reasons was my health. I have allergies to dustmites and other substances. I also get asthma daily, and if a cold turns bad I end up with bronchitis. Bengals tight, short coats are easy for me to groom (without wheezing) and I can hoover up after them (with a dust mask)
Other cats like my non-pedigree girl would require me to get help to clean up after them as the quantity of fur and its length affects me and I then wheeze badly for awhile.
I now have two female bengals, and are applying for my breeder prefix to start breeding this year. When I see Chinchillas at the shows I still admire them very much. But the extend of grooming they require on daily basis would not suit my health.
However I do feel the bengals I have are almost like little people. Cheeky, loving, playful and of course naughty. I made the right choice without doubt.
And like all of us cant wait to have more.
