Eating clumping cat litter is extremely dangerous as it absorbs the liquid in the digestive tract and will block the intenstines. There are other types of litter out there. However, a cat recently had to have surgery to remove a dozen litter pellets from its stomach. Your kitty has PICA. The bigger issue here is that Trixie is just kitten -- just under three months old. She is going through a LOT at her young age. And since you got her really early -- her mom probably didn't get to teach her everything Trixie needed to know. I really hate you are in this position when you should be experiencing happy times with Trixie. Bless you for hanging in there through all of this. It should get better shortly.

This is so frustrating. First they said I would have her test results last Friday then they said this Friday. I just called the vet because I think they close soon and nobody has called me. She said they still don't have them but somebody is going to call over there and try to find out what the hold up is. I don't think she has TF because the stink is much less horrific than it was before, but she does still have diarrhea so it would be nice to know what the problem is. On a brighter note only one mushy poo so far today so at east the frequency is down. She finished her amoxicillin yesterday so maybe it was that contributing to the diarrhea

I know you are anxious to at least rule out the TF. Is Trixie due back to the vet for a follow up? Just to make sure she doesn't need any additional medication. Trust me, Amoxicillin has that exact affect on me. Hoping for better days for you both.

Yes she has an appointment this Tuesday for a recheck and a weigh in and to make sure she isn't dehydrated and needing fluids again. She is also due for vaccinations that day because it will have been 4 weeks since Karen gave her the first ones but they said she can only have them "if she is healthy"
How much should a 12 week old kitten be eating? The can says only 1 can (it's a 3 ounce can) per 3 pounds of weight per day. she is not 3 pounds yet so she should not even eat a full can per day? She was eating more before, but now she eats about a can and a half per day split into 3 meals.

Well, kittens do need to eat more and Trixie is behind in the weight department. Normally, you would feed your kitten as much as they want to eat as they are growing and have tiny tummies. I would think 1-1/2 3-oz cans would be enough for her right now. I'm sure you are giving her "kitten" food. The general rule is 1 oz per 1 lb of weight, but that's just a guideline. Hopefully, you will get good news at the vet that she is gaining weight.

At least you will know tomorrow how Trixie is doing and whether she's gained weight. If she has, that is a GREAT sign -- and just continue onward. Kittens do require several meals a day and most will let you know their bowl is empty and needs refilling. I'm sure she will discover the fountain. I've had cats on canned food that rarely drank any water at all. Now my bengal is mainly on dry food and he is at the fountain several times a day (or at the bowl of water I have in the bathroom for him. Let us know what you find out tomorrow.

Well the good news is that she did gain weight although it was only 3 ounces. She is 2 pounds 3 ounces now. They said her belly looks less distended too. We brought a sample of her diarrhea which they are testing for common parasites and we are still waiting on results of TF. They sold me a case of Hill's Science ID but even though she was starving when we got home because her appointment was at her suppertime she would not eat it. She came running and meowing when I opened the can but when I put it down she smelled it and came running back to me climbing my legs like where is my real food so that was a bust. I tried again just now and she still will not eat it so we are going to return it. If the diarrhea does not resolve by our next appointment they want to do some bloodwork and an ultrasound. They asked me if her mom had been tested for leukemia and I could only say I assumed so but I am not sure, so I am trying to find out. We have a follow up appointment on the 12th. Yesterday she only had diarrhea twice so that was also an improvement and she was not dehydrated and didn't have to get fluids.

The Hills Prescription diets are not tasteful! I've stopped buying the cans and only use the dry for Raiden. I was tossing 90% of the can away because he would just lick the gravy and not eat any of the chicken. And the Hills Rx diets are limited in the type of meat -- usually just chicken. So .... I would feed Trixie what Trixie likes to eat! That is more important now than anything else. She is still underweight and you want her to continue gaining weight. I'd return the food to the vet and get some of your money back. I'm surprised they didn't just offer to sell you a can or two to try it out. The food is super expensive through the vet -- they should know better. So, just get Trixie back on track eating her regular food.

You can buy chicken broth for pets. Chewy.com sells it. Much more expensive than unsalted chicken broth that can be bought at the supermarket, but as long as you are comfortable making your own, that's great and it will certainly help keep her hydrated. At some point, she will catch up to her weight -- just make take some time. At least things are going better -- for both of you. Poor Trixie has been through a lot in her young life but know that better days are ahead. Thank you for keeping us posted.

I can't believe your vet wouldn't offer to see you a can or two. Mine will -- abet $2.50 a can, but at least you're not wasting all that money. Unfortunately Rx diets are ONLY available with a prescription from your vet. Have you tried Trixie on any dry food? Perhaps you could add some of the chicken broth to it. Whatever Trixie will eat and however much she will eat -- that's really the best route to take at this point.

Still no news on the TF test? At least to know she doesn't have it?
