Emergency vets are great when you need them. We have several in my area open 24/7. I picked up meds for Raiden from one today. Just very expensive. But nice to have when you do have an emergency.

The good news is your baby is gaining weight -- such a great sign. Hopefully, she will continue once she gets to feeling better.

Shame that she lost most of the last litter. Maalavi is pictured as a young kitten on her website, so I wonder if it may have been her first litter. A breeder recently lost a queen AND all her babies. It just happens sometimes.

Please continue to keep us posted.

Raiden is on the Hills i/d diet. He really digs into the dry food, but still has diarrhea at times. He is on Metrondrazole which I've just started giving him twice a day. He was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease earlier this year and it's just something we have to deal with the rest of his life. He will turn 12 in March. You're just starting with your Trixie. Hopefully, this can be taken care of with medication. Hope Trixie gets lots of hugs and kitty kisses.

Many people feed exclusively raw diets.

Quasar was weaned on a raw chicken diet. I have fed him exclusively raw food. He is almost 7 years old now, and is the healthiest cat I have ever had.

Since cats are obligate carnivores, feeding some (or all) raw meat shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck!

Many breeders feed their weaned kittens a raw diet. It is perfectly fine, if the cat will eat it. JewelsPride Bengals sells the raw food to their kitty owners in case they don't want to go through the hassle of doing it themselves. Every three weeks, Carmen spends an entire day making containers for her cats and the owners who want it. You can purchase a raw diet online.

The Hills i/d dry food has chicken and chicken liver and that's besides the supplemental nutrients cats need. IBD cats don't need rice, potatoes, cranberries, peas, etc. I've tried many of the "limited" ingredient canned products and Raiden just doesn't eat them.

Hope you get the TF test results soon so you know for sure.

ok thanks. I was just wondering if possible salmonella from raw chicken could have caused her diarrhea.
for now we are just going to finish up her meds and hope for improvement. the parasite results should be by Friday. they said if she does not get better and it is not that parasite she will have to get bloodwork and ultrasounds to see if they can find the problem, and they will start her on hill's science.
She has only had one bowel movement today and it was normal so I have my fingers crossed she is getting better. but this has happened before that she would have a normal one and then later in the day diarrhea again.

Raw diet is a somewhat controversial thing. Most vets won't recommend it, I think mostly because if it's not bought commercially, then it puts the burden on you to become expert feline nutritionist as well as expert catfood manufacturer, and if you get either of those wrong, it can be really harmful to your cats (and potentially yourself as well). One feline nutritionist I read, does recommend waiting until the kitten gets their immune system more developed before feeding raw, but like others have said, some breeders do it from the start, as do many cat guardians like us. There used to be alot of really hard-core raw diet proponents in the forum, so you can go back and peruse some of those discussions of several years ago.

https://catinfo.org/ is a useful website for those wanting to go "raw", but they are also kind of over-the-top militant about it, last time I visited there and read some of their articles.

As far as the TF results go, keep in mind that these sorts of tests are not 100% accurate. If you do get a negative result, a re-test or proactive treatment might not be out of the question. There was one member here a few years ago that got a negative test, and decided to get the treatment anyway because she was very sure her cat had it, and it worked out well for her and her cat (your mileage may vary though, I'm not necessarily recommending that).

There is a topic in the Nutrition section on feeding a raw diet. You might want to read through it. There is more to just feeding a raw piece of chicken, duck, kangaroo, rabbit, etc. Cats have nutritional needs of calcium and taurine. While you can purchase the supplements at a pet store, you would need to add the organs of the animal as well as crushed bones (or egg shells) for calcium. There needs to be a balance, which is why some will buy the raw diet commercially. Many go on the assumption that the Asian Leopard Cat eats raw in the wild. But our bengals are domesticated and do really well on high-quality manufactured cat food. It's simply a personal choice for the owner. But ... in the end, the cat is the one that has to like the food.

Raiden goes the same way. He can have a regular stool and then next time it comes out like soft-serve ice cream. We've done a couple of ultrasounds that have only shown a thickening of the small intestine wall. There are illnesses in cats that are hard to diagnose definitively, so vets go on instinct.

I really hope Trixie gets better.

I don't own a meat grinder and all those recipes for raw diet look pretty complicated (and gross) to me so we are sticking with canned kitten food. I just wondered if the raw gizzards and what not she was eating before I got her could have caused the diarrhea.
Since my last update she has had a few normal bowel movements and then had puddles of diarrhea the same day. Hoping for test results tomorrow. she has finished her antibiotics so I have my fingers crossed that it may have also contributed to the diarrhea and I'm hoping for some improvement now that she is finished.

I don't believe cats can contract salmonella from chicken. Can't wait for your test results. It appears things are looking better for Trixie.

I will let you know when I get her results. Meanwhile, do you have any advice about getting her to stop playing with litter? I don't want to always swoop in and pluck her out of the litter box when she is playing because I'm afraid I will make her feel like she has to hide somewhere to do her pee and poop, but sometimes her bowel movements are the color of wet kitty litter and the vet said it's because she has eaten it. She plays in the box a lot. I try to distract her with toys but sometime the only thing I can do is just take her out of the box. I'm sure she does it a lot more when I'm asleep than she does during the day. I can tell by the way litter is all over the floor that she has been digging to china in the box.
