Since i have brought my kitties home from the breeder they have had a cold, Sneezing and crusty noses. The vet treated them with a round of antibiotics. Seemed better, but after two weeks it started again. So the breeder gave us more antibiotics. Still no better.
They dont act sick at all. Very playful and energetic. My other cat has not gotten sick. Has anyone ever had this?
I have never had a cat with a cold before. Could it be allergies?

Sorry to hear your little kitties have the sniffles. It could be an allergy...are you using the same cat litter and feeding the same foods that the breeder was? If not perhaps try going back to them and see if the sniffles clear up. Some times the stress of the move can cause weepy eyes but if they are sneezing then that would suggest either an illness or an allergy.

Do your kitties have any other litter mates and if so would it be possible to contact the new owners and ask how their kittens are? If they to have the sniffles it would suggest a bit of an illness.

Have your kittens had the full initial course of vaccinations (i.e. two injections aprox. 3 weeks apart)

Hi, could possibly be an allergy - have you got any of those smellie candles or plug in air fresheners. Or maybe someone uses lots of perfume / deoderant / smokes. Sometimes a bit of irritation develops into sneezing and runny nose / eyes then a minor infection sets in.

There are different strains of cat flu and it's believed that many cats are carriers. Often they never show any symptoms. They are viral infections and often manifest when the cat or kitten is stressed and it's immune system is under pressure ie when a kitten comes home with the new owner would be a no.1 time. If you imagine cold sores in people many folks have the herpes virus infection that causes them but not all get the sores. Ones who do get them usually get them when stressed or run down. It's a similar thing.

I think if you check for the smellies etc round the house just in case and also keep plugging away with the antibiotics you will clear it up. Good idea to go to the vets again in case he/she thinks a different type of antibiotic would be worth trying. I bet the vet will say fresh air will help, it might be a good idea to get a dog sized pen and give the kittens an hour or so outside when you can if it's fine.

Sounds like the breeder is very much on side which shows they are committed to you and the kittens.

thanks guys! I took the two boys to be neutered yesterday and have some blood work as well. the veternarian didnt find anything in the blood. No elevation of WBC's at all.
None of the other littermates have colds. We also dont smoke or have any of the smelly things in the house.
We did switch litter. Maybe the dust from it gets to them. I just hope it clears up at some point.
The vet didnt recommend anymore meds for now. They are so playful and recovered fine from surgery.
