Oberon is very dog-like in the way he plays. With cat fishing toys, he will grab hold of the bird or the stuffed mouse and pull on it like a dog playing tug of war. He takes stuffed critters, tears them open on removes their stuffing and noise makes like my daughter's dog.

I have a pair of rubber ballet flats (Crocs) that I like for gardening and camping. He loves to chew on those. I frequently hear his squeaky chewing noises in the middle of the night. The shoes are now well perforated as I have resigned myself to letting him have them as chew toys. He hasn't been chewing my good shoes at least.

I had never thought of cats as needing chew toys. Chew toys in addition to the usual cardboard, paper bags and newspaper, that is.

And Oberon loves to neatly fringe the edges of a newsprint ad like nothing I have seen. 1/4" spacing 1" deep all the way around the paper.

So what kind of chew toys does your Bengal like?

Cats generally don't have the need to chew on random objects like that. He's not a dog. Cats use their teeth and mouth pretty differently. In fact cats do very little chewing. It's usually shredding and swallowing. Your example of the tug-of-war when he catches his prey is actually a very "catty" behavior. They want to take their prey off to some place where they have some privacy (and not be disturbed by another predator) and enjoy the meal. That is a strong cat instinct, so yea, he doesn't want to easily give up his newly caught prey. And unlike dogs, my take is that I don't believe they actually want a tug-of-war, what they want is to play out that "carry off the prey" thing. After doing that, they gladly give up the prey to re-start the game.

For a short time, in kittenhood, my bengals wanted to chew on wires and cords. I bought these cord covers with grooved ridges, and then sprayed them with bitter yuck. That cured them almost instantly, and they didn't go off and substitute some other object for the ones they could no longer chew. Whew. What you've got to hope is that your cat doesn't have, or doesn't develop, full-blown pica. That would be bad.

So I dunno. I guess I would at least try to dissude him from chewing on shoes and other inappropriate things like that. You can use the bitter yuck spray trick for that.

The only thing mine chews is his food. I bought him a chew toy and he never used it. Some bengals are just chewers. Mine has never touched the toilet paper, but I see photos of guilty cats looking at the camera in a bathroom filled with toilet paper on the floor ("I swear I'm not guilty, mom."). Cats have different personalities, that's for sure. As long as Oberon doesn't swallow what he's chewing, he should be fine. And good luck in hiding something from him that he really wants as a chew toy. LOL

Mine will chew cardboard, toilet paper, the end of the wand toys, a few slats from the blinds on the back window and even the metal spring on a cat toy I had to take away. Unlike most, mine doesn't chew wires unless you are wiggling them ( like headphone wires that are in use ), so at least there is that.

Mine is still a kitten so she might grow out of this.

Mine chews too. She chews on my kids toys quite frequently but not enough to distroy it.

No, some cats do chew and destroy things. Many love cardboard. Others destroy their cat toys. Depends on the cat. Mine loves to lick plastic bags. He doesn't eat any of it, just licks them.

Cats are so freaking cute and unique. I just love them :)
