Hey guys. I used to post on here quite a lot a while ago, but then life took over unfortunately. I also felt like I finally got to grips with my 2 bengal beasts! I do have a question though and I'm sure there is wisdom here I can tap into! So, Maasai, my brown, has a patch of hair right at the base of his back (going into his tail) that is thinning. He is completely unaware of it, his behaviour hasnt changed a bit, he is not unwell at all. I have discussed with a very good friend of mine who is a vet nurse, and she assures me that I shouldn't be overly concerned. It isnt bald, but it is just thin. Has this happened to any of yours? I have recently started giving him grain free food in case he developed an allergy, and Im hoping this clears it up, but wondered if you had any suggestions or anecdotes? Thanks in advance!

Welcome back. You didn't say how old your baby is. If he is older, I don't know that I would worry too much. Humans' hair thins as we age, too. As long as you do not observe anything there -- fleas, scabs, etc. You said he is oblivious to this -- and I would think as long as he is eating, drinking, playing, grooming, and sleeping normally, this is fine. If you take him to a vet for an annual wellness checkup, the vet can check out the area then. But if any of his normal behavior changes, off to the vet you go.

He is 2. I dont think there is anything drastic going on with him medically, but I know something has happened. I really hope the new food helps x

I think it would be well worth it to have him get a vet examination.

I lost my beloved Bengal mix last year to lymphoma, and, thinking back, the very first clue that I got was thinning fur and some dryness in his skin. He was gradually eating less food and getting less nutrients. By the time we noticed him losing real weight, it was too late.

The clues we get to any serious condition in cats is so subtle that any vet should take you seriously.
