Hello to all of you bengal lovers !!
I have been looking for suitable cat insurance for when my bengal kitten arrives next week, theres so many packages and thought i would ask you good people for advice for a good insurer that wont let you down and that wont hike the price sky high if you make a claim etc !
Thanks
p.s the kitten coming is a blue eyed snow spotted female
how do you post images so i can show her to you all ?

Hi there!
I thought I should post a reply on this both to help you, and also a bit on my own experience.

Is your snow spotted bengal going to be on the active register (That is used for breeding) or on the non-active? This will make a difference to the type of insurance you need and to the premium. Until recently I had 2 bengal cats, one was bought primarily for breeding/showing and so I put her onto a policy to cover that. The other cat was bought as a pet, I then changed her over to active (so I could breed from her). I did not change the insurance thinking, shes an 'INDOOR' cat, the risk is low of anything happening, I will change the policy over when it expires. However the unthinkable did happen, and she let herself out whilst in season (by opening a small window) and was killed in a car accident. The insurance company would only pay the 'pet'price even though I had receipts from changing her over to a breeding queen.

There was recently an article in the 'Our Cat' magazine which compared pet insurance policies, I'll have a look at my back copies and let you know which one it was in (assuming you are buying your bengal as a pet! :)

Snows are lovely :) My breeding queen is a blue eyed snow.

Good luck. Ask Gavin about the photos he helped me to get some on of my cats.

Best wishes,

Julie

Hello Lily,

firstly very sorry to hear about your loss that must and still must be a very difficult thing to go through.

she will be on the active register,i suppose there will be a difference in price also because of this, i am very interested to know what your insurance company is like and other members who use insurance companys for ther actively registered bengals.
Thanks very much for replying Lily.

Hi,
If you are in the UK, Petplan seem to be the best - premiums wise - for active register cats. But I haven't had to claim, so I don't know how good they are re this.
Petplan wont cover your first litter though, if you are a novice like me.
Keep us informed as if you find someone better I may change.
Cheers
Tanith

we use "scottish pets" or something that sounds like that for our queens!

Heidi is more skilled with paperwork stuff :? .....so I'll ask her to check who our policy is with and post it later!

We did look at a few companies but as Tanith pointed out - most don't cover the first litter......you should also note that some put a capped figure on the payout for a replacement if the worst should happen, In most cases they won't even cover the half the price you originally paid for your queen.

In reality there's only 2 main things to think about when choosing -

1. Is the first litter covered and how much money will be allocated to pregnancy related claims per year.

2. How much of your initial investment is covered.....should the worst happen.

you'll get cover for normal illnesses and accidents included with most but check just to be sure

For pets I'd go with petplan 100%, But breeder policies....I'm not so sure, and right now i can't remember why we didn't go with petplan!

Hi Again!
I looked up the article I mentioned to you in Your Cat magazine. It was in the january issue. It was a general article about what to look out for when choosing an insurance company. My breeding queen is with 'Scottish Pets' (recommended by Meemonkey and Heidi ).
You can purchase a policy which covers the first pregnancy, and which covers the purchase price up to £1000. I know you may have paid more than this. But should the worst happen you need to be sure the purchase price is covered. Also if your queen needs a caesarian, for example first time around it helps if its covered.

My girl is going to be mated soon :) so if all goes well I expect to have some kittens for summer.

Look forward to seeing your pictures.

Julie

Hello Lily thanks again for replying,
i will be looking into this company because really we wouldnt want her to be in any risk with her first litter so scottish pets looks to be best.
Would love to see your girls kittens pics in summer.
Thanks again for your advice
and heres a pic of our girl :

She looks lovely, very similar to my Branwen in fact as they both have the same short muzzle. They could well have some relations in common :) . I hope to post some pictures of my girl on the gallery whe I have leanrt to 'scan'.
