I brought my bengal kitten home at 12 weeks old, and it has been a couple days now and she is still SO nervous. She lets me pet her and she will stay sleeping next to me in her bed but whenever I try to let her roam around she hides under my bed and won't come out. She has eaten her food when I pick her up and put her there, but I have not seen her use the litter box. I have kept her in my bedroom for the most part and try not to let too many people near her. Any advice on how to get her to open up? Or should I just stay patient and give her time? (side note: she comes from a great home, I went myself to pick her up from the breeders and everything was perfect, it was a great home)

When she goes under the bed, sit on the floor, read a book and ignore her, totally ignore her.

She is looking for confirmation that you aren't going to harm/eat her. Ignoring her shows that you are not a threat at all.

Also take a wand toy into the room and play with it yourself - run it across the floor/over things, again totally ignore her.

When she starts needing to play with the toy you know that you are making progress, play more, and some more and build up her confidence.

Welcome to the forum and remember BE PATIENT. It is very scary for a new kitty to come into a new home. New smells, new people, new everything. Your little gal is stressed out and she needs time to decompress. This can take several days. It is naturally common for them to want to hide somewhere they can feel safe. Whatever you do, do not rush her. Give her time. She will come around and become your very best friend.

In the meantime, do not force her to roam around your home. She will come out when she is ready to explore. This is so common with bengal kittens. A couple of days is not long enough for your baby. She obviously needs more time. Give her treats, try to engage her in play with cat toys. Talk or read softly to her. She is already wanting to sleep next to you, so there is trust there. But hang in there and just give her time. That's ALL she needs.

And note that it is very common for kittens in a new home to not use the litter box for a few days. Eventually, it will all want to come out. If not, then she needs to see a vet. Constipation and diarrhea are two very common issues when going to a new home. Hopefully, you are feeding her the same food the breeder fed her. She needs minimal changes in her life right now.

It normally takes up to a week for a kitty to acclimatize itself to a new home. One of mine likes to hide for a few days and didn't pooped as well.. til eventually he did and was such a relief..lol..celebrate the journey..
