Hello has anyone come across grill or something that you can put over an open window to stop a cat getting out? Our back garden is very secure and the cats go out there but in the hot weather I would like to open more windows but they will be out an open window before I could blink.

I'm not sure if I got your question correctly, but usually you can install a frame with a mesh for your windows. You'll get the air flowing without the insects flying in, or your cat going out.

Here in the south in the USA, we have air conditioning, so opening windows is not an option in the heat! And our windows have screens on them for those times in the spring and fall when we do open the windows. You obviously live somewhere else. I don't know if your windows have a channel where a screen would go, but you could probably create something that would fit in there with screening. Unfortunately, cats love open windows and will jump several stories down to the ground.

If you are in the UK, check out this link: http://www.flat-cats.co.uk

Search Amazon for 'window restrictors'

They fit in the gap between window and frame and prevent opening too much (I.e. Child safety)

Need to be good at DIY to install yourself, but are nicely concealed.

Or, if you have plastic (UPVC) windows as common in the UK, put a couple of screws into the frame sticking out just far enough to catch / snag on the hinges as they start to open out and restrict opening to 3 inches that way.
