I was always suspicious of the story that in the 1970's a nice lady had an asian leopard cat and a tabby and they loved each other very much... and the first bengal cat was born.

The truth is out there

Long, tapered tail - yep
Spotted coat - yep
Longer hind legs - yep
Little monsters - Oh yes :-)

Yeah, that story is really suspicious since the mating between an Asian Leopard Cat and a tabby was done by Dr. Centerwall, who was not a lady! LOL. That produced Roschach of Millwood, the F1 that Jean Mill was given and bred with a domestic shorthair (Finally Found Of Millwood) that started the whole thing off for Millwood. Everything else you said, Cranberry, is FACT!
