Hi,

I'm looking for help getting my bengals to stop waking me up at 5pm and wondered if anyone had successfully used an automatic feeder. My thinking is to set it to open at 5am and give both cats breakfast.

I think it's my female Boo that's waking up and coming straight upstairs and scratching my door and meowing. I don't get up and feed at that time, in fact they have only ever been fed after my shower in the morning which is about 6.30am on work days.

I can easily ignore here but don't want to risk waking my 6 yr old as she definitely needs her 10-12Hrs sleep lol

Thanks in advance

The general advice for cases like this is to not respond to the cat in anyway when it is trying to get your attention. 2 weeks or so of *completely* ignoring the scratching and miaowing should see your cat get the message. Any response and the time frame is re-set. You might well find that your cat isn't that interested in food at 5am - more she wants to have some one play with her.

Cats, in general, seem to be early risers. I'm a wimp and get up and feed my cat, regardless of the time. I need my 15 to 20 hours of sleep a day. LOL. I am sure there are automatic feeders out there if that is the reason your kitty is waking you up. If not ... then it's not going to help. Sometimes my cat just wants to play.

I get up around 5am, 4:45 this morning. I wonder if my cats have trained me to do that...

Every cat that I've owned has successfully adapted to my schedule. I'm just really stubborn about it, and they adapt with no problem. Feeding a snack right before bedtime may also help. Breakfast has also become a big deal to them because they know that on weekdays, when I'm preparing my sack lunch, I will give them each a piece of deli meat, which they go nuts over. They will scream at me and start running around in circles, but not until they see me open the fridge, first thing in the morning. Cats love routine.

One of my cats loves it when I sleep in, because it means that mommy doesn't have to go to work today! Snuggle time!
