Hey, I would like some advice on something.

In October, we adopted our three year old Bengal. She was very loved from the home we got her from however they had 2 boy bengals which would bully her, and the owners felt this was unfair on her. Since we got her she has settled in and adores me and my partner - she knows she is the queen. However, me and my partner are out for many hours in the day and we feel as if she gets bored without us, as she shows so much excitement when we get home.

We have been thinking of getting her a little friend by adopting a kitten bengal but we are unsure how she would react to this? She is a very loving cat however like all Bengals, she has wild side. I'm afraid she wouldn't take well if we got a kitten and might feel rejected by us?

I am no Bengal expert so all advice would be great.

We are a 3 cat household. My advice is to adopt an older bengal. We have had many situations between the cats in which they had to be separated into different rooms for a while. I am not sure that a kitten would survive without constant supervision ( someone being home ). Although, please take my situation as only a bit of advice, as we have not had a kitten interacting with our cats. It could be a fantastic idea.

I definitely and highly recommend a second cat. Bengals in particular need that extra attention and can get very bored alone for long periods (and that can lead to poor behaviour in the long run).

The long answer as to how she will react is that no one knows. We had the most docile neutered Ocicat who had never hissed or scratched at anything - had lived with our other cats for his entire life. At one point he was the last cat standing and we added another kitten to the household and he was not a happy camper and definitely showed it. It took a lot of time and various techniques but eventually they were good with each other.

So, I'm afraid I have to disagree with Noodle on getting an older cat. Cats (similar to a lot of other animals) are naturally protective of young. They are much more likely to accept a kitten than an older cat and less likely to hurt a kitten.

The key part to everything is going to be the introduction. I highly recommend that you do a slow introduction - I can provide more detail if you need it; but especially make sure that you do it over a weekend (or a time where you can be there for most of the first 2-3 days) and one super key thing is that you pay more attention to your existing cat than the new kitten. In a lot of ways it's like getting a baby when you have a toddler - jealously can be a factor too.

My bengals is the dominant cat of our 3. We have an Ocicat that is very shy but cats are like people as we all know. All cats have their personalities and no way to judge them off of their breed alone. My bengals is very inquisitive. From what I here I have a very melow bengal and he's still a nut. When he was my only cat he was way more crazy. He opened my freezer multiple times. Turned lights on and off. He's better now with his buddies around.
