Cant get any decent pictures!

Im writing this out of frustration more than anything else, but after an hour of trying Im giving up! They wont stay still long enough for anything half decent!!!!

Surely, your babies sleep! LOL Some of the sweetest pictures are of the kitties sound asleep! I know a lot of people like action shots and I've seen bengals flying in the air. Take the best pictures you can to have these memories. And be sure to post some here for us.

Cats can be a difficult subject to photograph, thats for sure. Its kinda ridiculous how many hours a day are spent looking at my cat from behind my (cell phone) camera. But....Ive gotten some BEAUTIFUL shots with a little patience.

Ive learned to literally follow my cat around, camera at the ready, and snap REALLY fast shots just as soon as she holds a pose for longer than .5 seconds. Pay off has been worth it, as Suri's facebook page is slowly filling with beautiful picts!

Ha ha I give up with my two kittens. They can be sitting lovely and quiet and as soon as I get the camera out they're off!

Also with them being black when I do get photos they just look like a pair of black blobs :mrgreen:

Many times, you have to have your camera ready and just follow them. Snap away. You can always delete the bad shots. I know Deputy gets the greatest shots of Suri. Don't give up! Even the blurred pictures can be great.

Eggman...LOL...I think black cats make for BEAUTIFUL shots! Seriously, google black cat photos for some beautiful ideas. Black cats against a grey background....DROOL.

Zakadoe....Have you gotten some shots yet? Im telling you, total patience is the key. Hahahahaha, example: Today I needed to get the purr-fect shot for a Valentine's Day article for Cat Lovers magazine and website. I staged everything just right....but had a very uncooperative Suri. The ONLY way I could keep her still was to have my camera ready to go, pose her, and hold her favorite toy where she could see it. To get the rest I had to wait for her to fall asleep. I JUST finished her photos and the article. Got my pictures though!

Once a long time ago, BrianJ from here gave me the advice to turn the shutter speed up high on my camera and then adjust lighting as needed to get good shots of our wonderfully spastic creatures, and it made a world of difference in capturing pictures.

In order to photograph your cats, the following should help:

1. Make sure there is plenty of light - put on the lights and/or use the camera's flash

2. Put the camera into sports mode - generally shown with a little image of a running man

3. Learn how your cats are going to react and try and predict where they will be for a shot - you can also use treats/toys to entice them.

4. Take *lots* of pictures - if you throw 95% away it doesn't matter, you'll still have some good shots of them.

5. Give it all up, make a cuppa, relax and photograph them when they're sleeping. :-)

Suri is such a super model lol.

Will have to give that a go with a different background. I like the idea of trying to take some 'professional' type photos.

Suri is the most beautiful little girl I think I've ever seen. I LOVED the video of her chasing the toy down the steps and bringing it back. You've also got a little cutie pie that sneaks in at the end.

Awwww, thanks guys! Thats just a preview of her Valentine's Day shoot. It came out GORGEOUS.

Staging a "professional" looking shoot is pretty simple! Any type of drop cloth....a blanket, towel, bed sheet, etc all work very well. Light colors, dark colors....whatever look you're going for! Find a solid color that will help make your kitty's markings pop. Thats always key. Good lighting is a MUST. That above shot was literally taken in my living room on the couch. I had a lamp on and the shades open. That was all that was needed. Simple cute props for a "themed" shoot are easy as well. You can try beach themes, holiday themes, black and white shots, pretty much whatever you can imagine you can find a way to make it happen! It can be time consuming, but SO much fun.

Outdoors shoots tend to yield beautiful results....the colors, the natural lighting, and the illusion of a "wildcat" in its "natural habitat" makes for nice photos.
