So I live in a city and Amara somehow managed to get out without me noticing. Where I live is well known for having quite a few non-trusting types of people. So I instantly knew if someone picked her up, chances are I wouldn't get her back. Looked everywhere possible for her, everyday and night for six days until she randomly turned up at my doorstep hungry and clearly cold from the wet weather.

Even known I posted quite a bit on local lost and found FB sites no one seemed to have seen her but now people are telling me that people had seen her but no one would believe them that "a small leopard" was running around in people's gardens Apparently even known they are one of the most popular breeds in the UK not everyone must be aware of them.

Am quite amused that someone actually thought she was a little leopard pmsl

Very pleased to hear Amara came home! I know how it feels when you lose one as it happened to me earlier this year - fortunately we also had a happy ending!

You are very lucky. She obviously didn't wander too far from home. When I first saw Raiden on my deck, I thought he was a small bobcat! People aren't used to seeing cats with spots or rosettes! Hopefully, Amara will not escape again. Next outdoor excision, she may not be so lucky as to be able to return home.

People aren't used to seeing them as most of us keep them in, I wouldn't dream of letting mine out, we have had alot of cats go missing around the area, people are taking them either to sell or for their fur, we had a spate of this happen about 30 years ago when me and my husband first moved in together, we had 2 cats a ginger and a tabby, just up the road from us on a golf course the police kept finding dead skinned cats they were killed for their fur, at the same time my tabby girl went missing and I never saw her again.

This I one of the reasons I would never let a cat outside now unless it's on a harness.

We have a huge problem here in Nashville with dog theft. They will steal your dog right out of your backyard and either try to flip it on Craigslist or use it as a bait dog in dog fighting. The police keep busting up the dog fighting rings and the dogs end up at Metro Animal Control -- they are over capacity and keep waiving the adoption fees to get the older dogs out of there. It's not so much of a problem with cats and they tend to scurry away when approached by a stranger, but still .... If they can grab one, they will take it. A bengal may be a different issue because of the beauty and people just aren't familiar with the breed. There was a case here of a bengal being taken right from the front yard.

apparently Amara was sighted over a ten minute walk away! Not sure how she travelled so far and still made it back home

Cats seem to be much more perceptive when it comes to following scent back to their home than a dog. Of course, some kitties roam so far away, they are completely lost. Thankfully, Raiden knows his way back home so if he escapes out the door without my seeing him, he will return home at some point.
