Just been on another pet forum and there's a lady on there with a 16 week old Bengal. Reading through the thread it was pretty obvious that her baby had FIP and looks like it has just been confirmed.

I am so utterly devastated for her and it brought everything back what I went through with Dexter.

Such a cruel and horrible condition. I wish there was a cure. Poor baby

I have a friend who has had a few of her kitties put down due to FIP. Always sad when it happens, but especially to a little one.

It's a terrible disease and very hard to go through because you're helpless  I hope that someday they will find a cure.

I really wish they could find a cure, vaccine anything for this horrible condition.

It's honestly scarred me what I went through with Dexter.

I don't even know if I could get another kitten as it would play on my mind so much and I'd be forever looking for signs and worrying.

Gosh, FIP? I've not heard of that before until reading this forum and now this thread - it sounds terrible for cats and their owners. Is it more common to Bengals? or is it common to cats in general and more so when more two or more are living together - or can one living by itself contract it - and then how.... genetics, virus - contact with other infected cats outside of the home? I've always grown up with a cat but only a single cat at home any given time and they've always enjoyed indoors and outdoors freely with no issues.

Feel for you so much and all the others who have lost beloved kitties to this horrible disease  Devastating and heart wrenching to read the awful stories.

They still don't know what causes it to mutate  Coronavirus can be transmitted between cats in a household (or cattery). I did just recently read that there is a vaccine being tested but so far it has not been very effective.

Hunter was 3 when I lost her to FIP, none of the other cats in the household ever became ill. I donated her body to an FIP research project to hopefully help find a cure/vaccine.

I just think veterinary research takes a backseat to research dealing with diseases for humans. Not enough money is given, so that research takes a whole lot longer. They have vaccines now for diseases they never had 20 years ago.

Very true about the funding Sherry.

Speaking as someone with a rare condition, there isn't enough research being done on human diseases either! Just too much science needing to be done, not enough scientists or funding.

Research takes a lot of time as well. They have found cures and prevention for so many diseases that our ancestors died from. They have made great strides in cancer therapy -- but it costs millions of $$$ to get the research underway and then it seems to be trial and error until they hit on something. The government wastes so much money on trivial things (like the reproduction habits of cockroaches).

Actually, that cockroach study has led to new products to control cockroaches. Which, if you live in an urban area, are a prime cause of athsma in children.

Well just thought I'd give my opinion for what it's worth

My dad died of cancer and it is prevalent throughout my family particularly bowel cancer but I do think that too much money is given to cancer research and not enough to other causes.

There you go said it!
