Trimming Claws

Debbie, the scratching post will remove the old cells of the claw. Raiden uses his scratchers several times during the day and his claws looks great. It's like giving the cat a bath -- they do that themselves. Anything they can do themselves that relieves me of doing it for them -- I am in favor of .....

why stressing a cat for no reasons?
I don't trim and I'm against that....

Sometimes old cats need a little help though. My very old cat sox, who was 22 when she died, stopped grooming and scratching on her post properly when she was about 17. From them on I groomed her coat and clipped her nails or they would get caught in furniture etc when she jumped off which could have resulted in injury. If Muskey scratches a lot himself then he probably is ok without trimming, but as you said, you definitely don't want claws growing into pads. When he punctures your face with his claws he is just giving you a very gentle reminder to FEED ME NOW :lol:

If the nails are trimmed properly, it will take them a month to grow and get sharp again. Actually, it took Raiden 6 weeks to get his back to normal. He's always doing air biscuits, so I can view his claws and they look fine to me. I hate stressing out a cat! And I know this is something they do not enjoy (for the most part).
