I have to admit – when I first read this forum and came across many people saying that their bengals are unaffectionate and aloof, I was really worried.

I thought to myself, “Oh no… have I made a mistake? Is this cat going to be completely independent and dislike me? Is a Bengal perhaps not for me?”

I am soooo incredibly happy to admit that all my doubts are long gone.

After having my gorgeous boy for 2 months (he is 6 months old now) I am completely smitten with him.

His personality has really come out and he is just the sweetest, funniest, most curious little boy. I am so happy that I have put in all the time to allow him to settle and give him time to come out of his shell.

He is interested in everything I do – what I am cooking, what I am eating, when I am emptying the litter he sits under me and watches, when I am painting he observes, etc.

He is also incredibly affectionate – every time I come to pat him, he instantly begins to purr and knead, bump his head against my hand, rub against me, curl his tail around me, arch his back, and come up to my face and touch his nose to mine.

Although he is still a bit scared of my boyfriend and tends to run off when he comes over to pat him, he has really bonded with me. I think it is because I feed him, play with him most, talk to him all the time and give him lots of pats and cuddles. I think it is also because my boyfriend just approaches him at full height and without extending his hand first. If he bent down a bit, extended his hand and spoke softly to him, I think he would be more welcoming.

Overall, he is just such an amazing cat. I was used to cats who would sit by the window and sleep all day, rarely interested in what you do. He, however, is so full of energy and is SO curious, I cannot believe it. I LOVE how interested he is in everything and how smart he is.

I can now call myself a proud Bengal owner and have ZERO regrets :) Bengal mum for life!!

Sometimes MEN aren't not into cats as much as we women are. And cats can sense that. If your boyfriend would spend the time with the kitty, I'm sure things would be different. I'm happy you have no regrets! Generally, bengals are not lap cats, but it really depends on how they were socialized at the breeders. You have found that bengals are loyal kitties and love being around their humans. Raiden follows me from room to room as well. I'm upstairs on the computer and he's laying on the floor napping. Your little guy will continue to adjust to you and your boyfriend. I'm just glad you're having a great experience with this.

Yeah, whilst Alex isn't a lap cat, he will sit next to me, or come under the doona in bed if he's cold.
He's my shadow however, has to be where ever I am.
