So about 2 years ago my family bought our kitten Toby. He was advertised as a Bengal cross online (along with his 5 siblings) and we were told his mother was a Bengal and his dad was an American shorthair. At the time we didn't ask to look at the parents because we didn't really know all that much about cat breeds, plus he wasn't being sold at an expensive price and he was (and still is  ) extremely cute and wonderful, so we bought him. Recently however I've learnt that apparently a lot of breeders advertise domestic tabbies as Bengal crosses, which then made me think about Toby. I think he could be a cross but at the same time I'm not sure seeing as I'm not all too familiar with cat breeds, so I wanted to know what people on this forum think? Either way he's still wonderful, but I just wanted to know purely for my own curiosity .

Toby is strikingly handsome! All bengals have tabby in them as that is how the breed was started! Bengals have either rosettes or marbling. Toby appears to have marbeling. Bengal faces are very similar to tabby faces. Bengals do have their own characteristics. The problem we have are with backyard breeders who advertise bengals who are not bengals. A purebred bengal will come with registration papers and a pedigree. People like to use the word "bengal cross" as if it actually means something. Unless you were to have seen the parents and one was a purebred bengal, than you really don't know if Toby has any bengal in him. He may, but there is no way to know for sure. He's just gorgeous, so enjoy him for the kitty he is!

He potentially could be a cross, but it isn't super obvious from the photos. This will remain a mystery I'm afraid.

Looks like a marbled tabby.
