Reactions to Bengal cats

I'm interested what kind of reactions you get from people who meet your Bengal. While most people are intrigued, some people have been afraid of Jasper because he looks like a wild cat. What are some reactions that your bengals have gotten from guests?

Most want to pet him and look at his fur. Most have never seen a Bengal cat.
A couple of years ago I was walking him outside our motel when someone came up and asked me what he is. The person seemed surprised to find out that he is a cat. :rolleyes:

Really the reaction to the bengals is about the same as the reaction to my oriental. The vast majority of people assume right off the bat that they are friendly, but have no clue what they are. So few people have pedigreed cats, or are at all knowledgeable about breeds. At first the assumption is usually that they are just very very attractive and unusual moggies, and then when I tell them, there is no comprehension at all. If I tell people that Neytiri is a "siamese" (she's really not, she's an Oriental Shorthair, but they are pretty closely related) at least people nod their heads, but then look at her skeptically because of her big ears and angular features etc. I think most people around here are used to the "applehead" type of siamese.

Usual reaction is 'OMG his markings are amazing' then they touch him and cannot believe how soft he is! It always surprises me as I am so used to him and think his coat is so normal, until I stroke my mum's cat and realise the massive difference in coats! Oscar usually performs for people rolling around like a total tart with everything on show! :rolleyes:

Merlin tends to come in and take a look at visitors before deciding whether he will honour them with his presence (and vocals LOL!) or he makes his displeasure known (with vocals LOL!) and goes off to harass the birds in the garden... or off to bed.

There are a few friends he does like, and they are occasionally allowed to actually touch him - He's only a lap cat for me, or my Mum (Granneeeee-miaoooow) if I actually sneak a day away from him! When I get back, he's straight back in my skin...

Everybody who has met Shaka so far has adored him. The Vets love him and have said what a fantastic temperament he has compared to some other Bengals they've had to deal with. A group of girls I walked past with Shaka said "oh look a tiger!".

I've never had any one be concerned by my two. Babbage generally hides and Ada follows the person around the house, just out of reach, checking out everything that they are doing. Eventually, she will decide that they are a useful source of strokes. :-)

I took Babbage to the vet once when he hurt his foot. As the vet was *trying* to listen to his heart through the sound of purring, he reached back and started licking her hand.

Blondie is shy around guests, but she will play peekaboo as time goes on. People love her unusual markings and her fur is amazingly soft so they try to touch her. They can be a little cautious about Grace. Even my vet thinks she has the possibility to bite or be mean because of her look. Honestly Grace is such a sweetheart. It just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. Grace does charge at people and then jumps away when they try to touch her, but she is the one entertaining guests usually. In about three hours I will have a house full of friends over for a party so I will get to see how my kitties interact at their current age. They are constantly changing. They know something is up because of all the preparations and cleaning. Grace went under my bed covers earlier to hide, lol.

Most are fascinated by Raiden. He's pretty friendly after the people have been in the room a while. He'll jump right up beside them and give them a sniff. Most everyone knows I have a bengal so they are anxious to see him in person! Thankfully, Raiden isn't a pest. He visits them, gets a few pets and goes on his way.

I'm hoping Raiden and his cat enclosure sell our house when the time comes! LOL

When I was young, and pretty broke, I had an apartment where I needed to move clear across country, so I had to find someone to take up my lease. And there was some water damage that the apartment complex hadn't dealt with yet, that I REALLY didn't want the prospective tenants to see (even though the complex promised to clean that up soon). So some prospective tenants came, and as soon as I opened the door, my cats were all over them, and it turns out they loved cats. So they spent pretty much the whole time petting my cats and talking to me, and signed the lease :lol:

My cats should have gotten a commission, because they definitely sealed that deal!
