Hi all i have a 12 week baby boy who wants out so bad.Hes already darted out twice but luckily i caught him immediately.So what can i do to curb this? I have children running in and out the back door especially in the summer.I am thinking of leashing but only would be able to walk him once a day maybe two.,Is this a wise idea or will it increase the behavior.I am thinking of a catio.Any ideas on this? I do have 2 other cats.One who would live a catio as well..Hes so darn smart he hears us come in and he waits especially if he hears grocery bags cause he knows we have to run in and out from the car.I would also live a way to curb him from the front door.Any help id appreciate.

I enter my house through the garage. I have a laundry room between the garage and the house so I close the garage door before entering the house from the laundry room. The door opens towards me and every single time my cat Blondie drops down into the laundry room to snoop around. Her sister Grace just lays down in front of the door. Once I feed them, Blondie comes in, and I can shut the laundry room door.

I have a screened in patio that my cats absolutely love. If you can provide your cat with a safe screened in area outside, I know he will love it. My cats are at the door before dawn and they look forward to my return from work each day so they can go in and out until bedtime. Until you can set something up take your cat on walks with a harness. Many people on here walk their cats.

A catio or cat enclosure is a great idea for your kitties. Since you have children who run in and out, it will be difficult to keep your kitty from escaping. If you Google "cat enclosure" or "catio" you will find a ton of photos and information on building one or you can purchase portable ones -- I always thought the portable ones aren't completely escape proof. Many enclosures can be built inexpensively. There are also fences to keep cats in the yard (Purrfect Fence is one). Recently, someone on here recommended an electric fence. I'm sure the transmitter that has to be worn by the cat would be way too heavy for your kitten.

The one thing you want to make sure is that your kitties are microchipped in the event they get out and are found by someone else.

Know that if you walk your kitty with a leash, that only makes the desire to be outside even stronger. But, at least the kitty gets exercise and it may calm him down for a little while. The other good thing is that if your kitty does ever get outside, he will be familiar with the area enough to find his way back home.

I just think you can tell your children a million times to make sure the cat doesn't get out and the cat will still eventually get out.

thank you for your replies.I think a catio is what ill try.My big blk/wht kitty cookie is also an escapee so I think he would love it as well. Ill def google it.If I could get it done for less than a few hundred ill be happy. So I could take it from the window or physically take them out there? Ill look them up.Yes it seems if I take him out he will whine to go out more.My dog ofcourse goes out once a day for walks so taking him wouldn't be a huge problem.I still think ill try the catio idea first and see if that calms his urges.As far as microchipping does the vet typically do that? He does have a kitty collar he hates so I felt bad and took it off but im going to have to put it back on him.I have a front and back door but most everyone seems to use the back door.He waits at both lol wherever he hears noise is where he books it.

I'm sure you can find something for a couple hundred dollars. Lots of ideas on the internet. My husband built a 12'x12' enclosure on our deck for Raiden. We have a cat door in the dining room window so he can come and go as he pleases. That still doesn't help a whole lot because he wants to still head for the door when he's inside, but it certainly has helped. The one time I tried to lock the cat door so he could not come back inside, he went crazy!!! Catios are usually small and are an extension of a window or a small area outside. View the images through Google and you will find great ideas. A few pieces of lumber and some fencing can do the trick. You can also do an enclosure that is away from your house -- or a cat run. You would then physically have to carry your cat out there to enjoy the enclosure. You just need to make sure there is shade and water. Before we built ours, I googled and looked at a million pictures. Some are simple, some are elaborate, and you can spend any amount of money on one.

Thx so much.Wow urs s amazing! What a lucky kitty Raiden is! I think im going to do an extension from my daughters room.Its in the back and would make a perfect spot.I actually was goung thru some posts and someone mentioned bells on the door.The cat hated the sound and ran when he heard the door!

Bells are good unless the cat eventually gets used to the sound. My hubby really went over and above for Raiden. I figured a small enclosure, but it's large enough for me to enjoy with Raiden as well. We moved a table and two chairs in there when we refinished the other side of the deck and Raiden loves the extra furniture to sleep on. I love the fact that it has plastic panels for a roof so he can be out there when it's raining and not get wet. I am looking forward to hearing what you've decided ... and then there are always pictures when it's finished!!! Good luck.
