So my Bengal is destroying my house. I'm really not exaggerating I had accounted for this somewhat but not quite to this extent she has ruined 3 carpets. And all of the wallpaper in my hall. Its clawed so much its even falling off the wall now she's learnt how to pull it. She's also destroying my bed. She has several scratch posts and toys we even made her a very cool toy to redirect her jumping. I have a 5 year old who plays with her a lot so she's burning off energy . the issue is she jumps up the walls . she's literally running up them. As well as scratching on them. So there's scratches way up the walks too like not much further down than my height.

Any advice on how to discourage this. I am not house prpuf or anything however I'm not sure I want her doing this if there's a way to get her to stop. I get it she's a Bengal and jumping is her thing but we have dangly toys we made her and screwes into our ceiling etc so she can jump but she's also still running up the walls and she does it everywhere

Oh wow, wallpaper…I have painted walls and Grace jumps up them and slides down with her nails screeching every day. I think she likes to make that noise. She has always done this and has even taught Blondie how to do it, but it's mainly Grace's thing. When she comes in at night she races up to the highest point she can like the top of a tower or the shelf near the ceiling in my bedroom and starts leaping upward over and over screeching with her nails. She settles down and stops at some point, but it is very odd behavior, lol. Last night she was doing it behind the curtain to the sliding glass door. It doesn't seem to leave marks that I can see at least, but if I had wall paper…that would be another matter. I guess you could remove it and paint the wall (what a pain that is).

Advice is pretty simple:

1. Don't use wallpaper, I think it's asking too much of your cat to ignore it
2. Put "cat off" type of sprays on things you want to discourage her from climbing/getting on. Cats put a very high premium on scent when making decisions about things! But when you do this, make sure that for each thing you mark as a "no" there is an appealing "yes" option for too. Otherwise you're just creating a hostile environment for her.
3. When she chooses something you don't want her to get on vs something you do want her to get on... you haven't made the thing you do want her to get on appealing enough! For example, I can't imagine her wanting to climb up an empty wall of smelly wallpaper if she had an option of climbing a catnip infused climbing pole or tall cat tree the led up to some cool perch or shelf for example.

Ahh yes, the wallpaper... I remember we had it too , long time ago , all painted now ,where it was possible with eggshell paint- easier to clean scratch marks!
Carpets - again where possible replace with hard wood, vinyl etc.
My problem now - replace the sofas, fabric or leather or loose covers with spares?

I have a bench at the end of my bed with a leather cover. It was like new when my two moved in. They punctured holes in the leather. Grace chewed the corners of both night stands. My bedroom furniture was the only new stuff I bought when I moved into my house. It figures they went after the new stuff. They have not bothered the leather sofa in the living room thankfully but I keep that covered for the most part. The cloth sofa is holding up well (micro fiber) and I have seen them use the arms to scratch. I should have catified my house when I got them, I had no idea cats could be so destructive. I just keep adding cat stuff so they leave my stuff alone.

We do have a fairly amount of cat stuff and the house is open to her and she explores it all she has something of hers all over so she feels secure. I had wallpaper before she arrived otherwise I may have reconsidered. However the walls are so bad I would have to strip the walls and get them completely replastered then sanded and repainted so if I can preserve my wallpaper a while longer I'd much rather do that. Good suggestion about giving her more appealing choices but I couldn't do that everywhere otherwise the hall would be over run with cat things as she literally does it on every square metre of the walls up and down stairs. May try shelves in the hall too

I've never had this problem with Raiden. The only time he goes up to a wall is if he sees a bug there. It sounds as if your bengal needs more play time. And play time can mean every waking moment that she isn't eating or grooming!!! Does your kitty use the scratching posts or not? If not, then you need to find some that will get used instead of the walls. I've heard the phrase "climbing the walls" a lot but never heard of a cat actually doing that.

She uses scratch posts yeah. She gets absolutely loads of excercise iv 2 kids and they keep her busy . I think this is the reason she sleeps through the night so well because the kids give her such a good workout. She scratches on the wall at times but the biggest issue is running up them

I just think it's something they do. Last night Grace ran up the shelves in my bedroom, stood on the ledge near the ceiling and started leaping toward the ceiling while her nails screeched and echoed through the house. It's sort of her bed time ritual. Kind of like Tarzan calling out before he swings through the jungle.

What is wrong with my Raiden? He only rubs up against the furniture. He's never scratched it -- EVER! He doesn't get into anything he shouldn't (except a junk bedroom that he has learned how to open the closed door). He loves plastic bags, so I hide the bathroom wastepaper baskets, but I guess he's a saint compared to some other kitties here. I call him my "pain in the butt," but I guess now he isn't so bad! LOL
