Gaga Very Ill

I woke up this morning, Gaga wasn't in my bedroom, that's about a 50-50 occurrence so I didn't think anything of it. So I showered and went down to make some breakfast, and Gaga was sitting on the bathroom floor, twitching, and struggling to stand up.

I scooped her up, put her in her carrier, and drove to the vet. She stayed all day with them, and the vet gave me periodic updates. She has been having small seizures about once per hour. So at the end of the day I had to pick her up at my vet, and take her to a 24 hour vet, where she could be monitored throughout the night. I got to visit with her some, but she was in one of two states, either having a seizure, or passed out. They say her vitals are good, temperature is good, and is lucid when she comes out of her medication fog, but it's not looking very good obviously.

When I got home, Serafina was screaming at the top of her lungs, obviously very distressed. I fed her and Neytiri dinner, and walked upstairs. No sooner had Serafina finished dinner, but she started screaming again.

Oh how awful for you all. Poor Gaga. She is in the right place and I know you only go to the very best vets for your three. The seizures sound awful. Can cats get epilepsy? My thoughts and prayers are with you today. Wishing you the very best and Gaga a speedy recovery. Hugs to you all x

My heart goes out to you all. I hope you get more positive news today, vets can do wonderful things these days so I'm sending all my best wishes to you and truly hope there is a good outcome and that Gaga pulls through.

Oh Brian. I am so sorry to hear about Gaga. I pray she recovers. I know how scary this is for you and you need the vet to figure out what is going on with her. I'm sure the other kitties miss her a lot as well and they know something is up. Please keep us informed on how Gaga is doing. {{{HUGS}}}

I'm so sorry Brian. I hope the vets can figure out what's causing her problem and get her fixed up. I can only imagine how scary that was for you and how much the other 2 kids are freaking out because she's missing.

Update: I'll spare you most of the details, but Gaga still is not doing very well. She spent the day at a neurological specialist, but they've done little more than drug her into oblivion, thus stopping the seizures. When I visited her last she was really out of it, until I asked the nurse whether she'd eaten today (one of the side-effects of the drug that were giving her is apparently to give her increased appetite) so she brought back some food. Gaga quickly came to and wolfed down the food, but her coordination was all off. Seeing and eating the food was a challenge, but she managed it really awkwardly, then she immediately went into one of the minor seizures. Ugh.

I'm pretty distressed by this whole thing (obviously). It's not just the prospect of losing Gaga, which is horrific, but seeing what she's currently going through, including being drugged so heavily, starved, and then the distress of all the seizures. She loses control over some of her muscles, and meows over and over, as if to say "make it stop". It's heartbreaking. Tomorrow I may have to make a tough decision about this, and I'm not looking forward to it.

If only you had a crystal ball to know what the next few days will bring and what the right thing to do is. Do the vets have any idea what is going on with Gaga - epilepsy, stroke? I really feel for you and hope for a miracle for Gaga, you and her sisters. Stay strong x

I really hope a vet can sit down with you soon and give you some idea what is going on and what is the best thing to do. I'm assuming they will guide you with any decision making.

Brian, how heartbreaking for you! I'd like to think there could be medication that would help Gaga. How does something like this happen, apparently, overnight? Let's pray there's improvement and hope for her. What did the neurologist say?

That's brutal man. Hope everything works out. That's a terrible decision to have to make.
